  3. History of the Yale Carillon • 1922: 10-bell chime installed by John Taylor Bell Founders. • 1948: Guild of Yale University Bellringers founded by student Elliott Kone, advisor to the Guild for over two decades.Bellringers paid 40¢ per ring.

  4. 1964: Donation of Florence S. Marcy Crofut (Honorary Member, GCNA) expands chime to 54-bell carillon • 1966: Kone and Yale students studyingat the Riverside Church found the Yale University Guild of Carillonneurs

  5. 1969: 28th GCNA Congress hosted at Yale University • 251 alumni, including Christina Anderson, Ellen Dickinson, Roy Lee, Thomas Lee

  7. Yale University Guild of Carillonneurs • Sole student-run carillon organization in the country • 26 members • Two 30-minuterings daily • The Heel: Highly competitive9-week lesson & audition process

Yale Memorial Carillon • 54-bell concert carillon by John Taylor Bell Founders, Ltd. of Loughborough, England • 8th largest carillon by weight in North America • Fully chromatic keyboard ranges from bass G to treble C; carillon transposed down 1 semitone • Major refurbishment by Taylor in June 2005 • Two practice keyboards (1964 Taylor /2003 Meeks, Watson & Co.) • Professional 4-channel recording system • Streaming video and audio broadcasting capability

  10. 2006 GCNA Congress Events Currently accepting proposalsfor talks and recitals.

  11. Recitals will feature talented young performers as well as internationally renowned artists, including: • North American and European guest artists • New Carillonneur Members • Winning entries from the 2006 Yale Carillon Composition Competition and the annual GCNA Composition Competition

  14. Exhibitions • Exhibition of the Robyna Neilson Ketchum Collection of Bells at the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments • Exhibitions on the history of Yale’s bells at the university’s main and music libraries • Publication of a history of the carillon at Yale
