  3. 0 What is Pro-Ohio? • A diagnostic tool to help teachers prepare students in Grades 2 thru 10 for success on the Ohio Achievement and the Ohio Graduation Tests. • Includes paper and pencil benchmark tests and short-cycle web assessments correlated to the State Standards in Math, Reading, Science & Social Studies. • Enables teachers to continuously measure instructional effectiveness so that teachers can continually adjust instruction based on progress toward reaching defined goals (scores).

  7. 0 Step 1:Benchmark Assessment • Two (2) Benchmark Tests • Form A: Given in the First Quarter • Form B: Given in the Third Quarter • Pencil & Paper to Mimic Standard Tests • One test for Math, Reading, Science & Social Studies • Grade Level Test Booklet with 45-50 Questions • Contains two (2) questions per indicator, including open ended writing questions • Scan sheets are used to collect answers

  10. 0 Benchmark Testing Process • Administer the Test in each Classroom • Each test will take 1.5 hrs. to complete • Only one test should be given per day • Schedule a make-up test day for absent students within the same week. • Results are tabulated by Pro-Ohio and returned to school leaders.

  11. 0 Preparation for the Test • Preparing Students • Stress importance of test to students (it may be difficult for them) • Marking Answer Keys • Have students circle the answer(s) in the booklet and then transfer to the scan-sheet. This minimizes errors • IEP Students • Students on IEP’s should take the tests with the same accommodations given for the OAT/OGT

  12. 0 Getting Benchmark Results • After testing is complete, turn tests in to the office with the teacher cover-sheet • School sends tests back to PRO-Ohio • Pro-Ohio returns results to school, YES reviews with the principal; reports are generated for each teacher. • Report Data willbe reviewed and explained during your hands-on workshop

TOWNVIEW ELEMENTARY Trotwood Madison Schools • 4th grade Reading Proficiency Test scores increased from 31 to 48% • 4th grade Math Proficiency Test scores increased from 15 to 62%, bringing them out of Academic Emergency • 6th grade Reading Proficiency Test scores increased from 30 to 51% • 6th grade Math Proficiency Test scores increased from 14 to 44%

  22. 0 GET RESULTS! FAIRMONT ELEMENTARY Canton City Schools • Students increased their scores on the 3rd grade Reading Achievement Test from 37.5% to 82.7% • a 120% increase that brought them out of Academic Emergency and gave them the highest scores in the district, a first for this school.

  23. 0 GET RESULTS! BEVERLY ELEMENTARY Ft. Frye School District • Math and Reading scores increased in all grade levels from pretest scores to post test scores.

  24. 0 GET RESULTS! MADISON PARK ELEMENTARY Trotwood Madison Schools • Pre and Post test Math scores increased significantly for 4th, 5th, & 6th grade students. • Pre and post Reading scores also increased dramatically.

COLUMBUS PUBLIC SCHOOLS • Caucasian students’ average scores increased 9.5 points from the pretest to posttest. • Black/African American students’ scores increased 16.2 points. • Hispanic/Latino scores increased 17.3 points. This suggests that a technology project may help in closing the digital divide among different ethnicities.
