History • Following the creation of a formal Asset Management Division in 2007, new tools were required to carry out the vision for the program by helping us • Understand the condition of our assets and their impact on system reliability • Make data-driven decisions regarding replacing, renewing, renovating, or retiring our assets • At the same time, City Light had moved to a new approach by acquiring common software programs that easily ‘talk’ to one another through integration. • Selection of a single vendor (Oracle) as the preferred vendor to speed implementation of new software.
History (continued) • Acquired Work and Asset Management (WAMS) and Outage Management software (OMS) in 2009. • OMS went live in October of 2010 • WAMS Phase I launched in June 2011 , Phase II in June of 2013
WAMS capabilities and uses • Robust time entry system • System of record for installation, maintenance and removal for all major assets (i.e. poles, streetlights, generation equipment) • Work order tracking (including customer service work) • Provides valuable data for decision making on asset upkeep and measuring work productivity. • Recent work includes integration with the new CCB system which is key to streetlight billing • New online application for customer construction requests.
Challenges and the road ahead • System is cumbersome and takes time to learn • Reporting • Data repository for customer drawings • Warehousing and Inventory Management • Major upgrade planned for next year
