A guide to Install and maintain a Machine Any instrument made to reduce the work effort of a human being is a Machine. Like how for the better existence of a building, laying a strong foundation is the most important part, similarly for proper functioning and performance of a machine, its installation and further maintenance is very important . Installation of a Machine The Support Structure (Foundation)-The base must be in a position to handle the load of the heavy machine that can be made of iron without any problems that is abnormal shaking, too close to any other machine allowing clashing, creating strong vibrations that can create risk. J-Bolts – Strong bolts fix the machine to the foundation very firmly and strongly. When concrete is poured to the surface, these bolts are fixed so that they grip on to the base as strongly as a one could imagine.
Remoteness –Energy created by one machine should at any cost not disrupt the functioning of the other machine. Thus sufficient gap should be provided between machines and the foundation of the machine should be such that it is able to absorb the vibration created by itself. Alignment- To avoid any work stoppage or accidents due to improper alignment, at the initial stages itself a machine should be check for proper alignment. Experts in this area would play a vital role in checking if this is done well. There is equipment made for the purpose of proper alignment which an alignment crew would use. Environment- EvenEiffel tower increases its height by 15 inches during summer. Machines are affected to a large extent due to sunlight, a minor earth quake far away disrupting the alignment of the machine, draught conditions, strong vibrations etc.
Maintaining a Machine A two wheeler would not function well if not properly serviced; a Machine is not exception to repair and maintenance. Types of maintenance Before actual repair- Prevention is always better than cure. A time line should be decided by the management of the company to ensure that proper checks are made to make sure the machines are in good condition. Necessary oiling, cleaning, checking for any leakage, checking the alignment of the machine, checking the vibration absorption capacity of the machine, checking for the nuts bolts to be properly fixed etc. should be done at least every 6-9 months.
After the failure – A breakdown, stoppage of work would invite unplanned repairs and checks. This are generally more cost and time consuming for the company as first the defect has to be identified and then the repair work has to start. In cases where the size of the equipment is very huge or is very critical, softwareare maintained to ensure the timely maintenance of the machine. Machines where/are created to help reduce human’s effort. It should be made sure that they do only that is in no way creating any threat to the society, whether it’s due to release of toxins in the air, due to improper maintenance or accidents due to negligence.
