It will not be wrong to say that Ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs in the Ayurvedic medicine system. It is an ancient herb and has been used in the Ayurvedic medicine system for the last 3000 years. The word Ashwagandha is a Sanskrit word derived from two different words ashwa (horse) and gandha (smell). It refers to both its unique smell and ability to increase strength.

  2. Why Named So? Ancient Medicinal Herb Ashwagandha A Great Herb Ashwagandhais derived from the two words – Ashwa means horse and Gandha mean smell. This plant smells like a horse. Therefore it is named so. It is also called Withaniasomnifera, winter cherry, or Indian ginseng. It is a small shrub with small yellow flowers. It is one of the oldest herbs used in Ayurveda.
