  1. RFID RFID: : New New- -a age ge T Technology echnology for Container Tracking Tracking System System for Container The new-age container tracking system not only offers cost effective solutions, but also increases ROI for fleets. Making use of the Internet enabled mediums including electronic file transfer, RFID or Bar Code, container tracking system in India has become a major step towards controlling, recovering and securing high value shipping containers from the beginning to the end of their life cycle. As opposed to a GPS location application, the container tracking system that utilizes radio frequency identification (RFID) includes not only each container's most recent location, but also the entire archived history or "passport" from the moment the container was acquired for inland transportation. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) makes use of electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags (containing electronically-stored information) attached to the objects. The passive tags used for the system collect energy from a nearby RFID reader's interrogating radio waves. On the other hand, the active tags have a local power source (battery). An efficient container tracking system helps in better regulatory compliance, internal and external audit requirements and international trade requirements while driving up the overall cost effectiveness of the container fleet. Some of the most remarkable benefits one can expect from an efficient automated container tracking system can be derived from strong focus on smart reports or event-triggered exceptions. The system very well addresses problematic areas of the container fleet performance that includes excessive dwell or transit times, stranded containers, or inordinately high damage. Another advantage of this system is its unique ability to rank customer or supplier locations in the order of simply "first to worst", regarding the container fleet performance in totality.

  2. Advantages of Radio-frequency identification (RFID)  Unlike barcodes, RFID tags are able to store larger amounts of information. Moreover, they follow commands and instructions of the reader as well.  RFID tags can be used both for tracking consignments as well as the recent history of the container’s performance.  RFID technology is unique and versatile in nature, and as a result, smaller and larger RFID devices have come into existence exactly as per the applications.  Tags can be both read-only as well as read/write unlike barcodes.  An RFID system is capable of scanning multiple items in simultaneously. The system allows one to minutely check all contents at once with no need to run individual barcode scans on each item.  Non-RFID systems generally have a single or limited capacity identifier for each object, but RFID tags come with far more capacity for storing information. The logistics data solution providers integrate multiple information nodes across a large number of agencies and offer a common visibility platform. All this ensures information symmetry within a single window with RFID technology at its backend.
