  5. Why is this degree so good? The students • The students are brillianthttp://www.cabotquartet.co.uk/ • They will really know their Engineering basics • They will understand the context: environmental, legal, social • They will have worked on designs in multi-disciplinary teams

  6. Why is this degree different? • Multi-disciplinary design • Placements in our companies • Large scale design by project groups • Backed by major companies • Research & Communication

  7. SET Exhibition of EngD Bridge

  13. This Year’s Large Scale Projects • Renishaw – Automated Assembly of high precision probe • AIRBUS – Seaplane Freight terminal • Motorola – Robot Security Guard • ARUP – Avon Barrage • Atkins – Wing Strut design in Composites

  14. Avon Barrage Project

  15. Avon Barrage – lock for ships

  16. BLADE explores Extreme Dynamics of: • High rise buildings • Aircraft components: wings, rotors . . . • Bridges • Process plants • Anything where dynamic behaviour is important

  17. BLADE – One of the new Labs

  18. BLADE & Other Facilities

  19. Why choose this degree? • Built in links to good companies • Experience – helps you get the sort of job you want • Small group course – wonderful people • Exciting large scale group projects
