  1. How to secure Linksys wireless router with a password? Linksys smart wi-fi comes with a setup disc that walks users through the steps required to configure a network of interconnected workstations confined to a small area. After establishing the network, you should assign a password to the router and to the network, preventing unauthorized users from signing on and potentially intercepting your organization's confidential data. Open a Web browser, type "192.168.1.1" (without the quotes) into the address field and press "Enter." Type "admin" into the Password field. Leave the User Name field blank. Click "OK." Select "Administration" from the main menu. Enter a new password into the Router Password field and re-enter it in the confirmation field. Click "Save Settings" to assign a password to the Linksys router. Click "Wireless" and select "Wireless Security." Select the "Security Mode" drop-down menu and choose "WPA2-Personal." Create a secure passphrase. All workstations connecting to the network will need to enter this passphrase when logging in for the first time. Click "Save Settings" to assign a password to the network. Source: smallbusiness.chron.com
