  5. Requirements Design, construct and test a balloon-powered car that: • has wheels • has a base • Ii propelled by wind power using a balloon • travels at least 2 metres

  6. Materials: Wheels • Lids from drink bottles • Cardboard • Toy wheels • Plastic tubing or strong plastic straws • Film cases

  7. Materials: Axles • Drinking straws • Wooden skewers • Thin dowel • Fencing wire

  8. Materials: Base • Plywood • Thick cardboard • Sheets of foam • Tissue box • Cardboard tubes

  9. Fastening Materials • Wood or craft glue • Masking or insulating tape • Stapler and staples • Plasticine • Blu tac

  10. Procedure • Form groups of 3 or 4 • Draw a design plan for a balloon-powered car • Upon completion show your plan to the teacher • Construct balloon-powered car • Test completed design • Make necessary modifications • Class competition • Compare results

  11. Evaluation Balloon-powered car will be evaluated on the following criteria: • The vehicle that travels the longest distance in a straight line • The fastest vehicle over a distance of 10 metres • The most unusual design that works • The most aesthetically pleasing design that works
