  1. How To Communicate With Alzheimer's Patients? Patients suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease find it difficult to express themselves. They tend to forget the words and start using gestures instead. In order to understand what they are trying to say, it is important that you remain calm. Here are some tips that may help you to have an effective communication with Alzheimer's patients. Interact by referring directly to names and places, ask one question at a time. This will help the elderly to communicate without getting confused. Keep It Simple Maintaining an eye contact while communicating indicates that you are attentive and listening to them with interest. This gives them the confidence to open up. Make Eye Contact For a perfect interaction turn off the TV, radio or any other gadget that may intervene the talk and cause distractions. Avoid Distractions Do not interrupt in between or ask unnecessary questions. For their health and mental state to improve, it is important that they express themselves. Do Not Argue Talk in a manner which doesn’t make them feel neglected. You must also avoid using baby talks and authoritative behavior. Treat With Respect Visual clues and gestures may sometime be a better option than words. For instance, instead of asking them to have food, point towards the kitchen and notice their reaction.
