  1. Love And Look After Your Pets - Also The Older Ones People love their pets, and rightly so: they are another member of the family, just like our children. We play with them, we appreciate their affection – and they rely on us for so much. Without our care, love, affection and shelter they will not survive. From the first day they come into our lives until that dreadful time that we have to say our last goodbyes –often at the vet’s – they belong to us, and we to them. This means at no stage of a pet’s life does it deserve anything but the best we can give them, also when they’re old, sleep more and may not feel like playing with us, chasing balls or prey if they’re hunting dogs. We need to make sure best we can give them. same way, and know when their dog or weight, is often more more. Or, he/she may climb like it was the in and out of the car that their last days are the Not all pets age in the individual owners should cat is slower, puts on listless or not so active any not find stairs so easy to case in the past, or getting becomes a problem. This is old age and the conditions associated with it, such as, say, arthritis. Or, their teeth give problems, or they may be dealing with other problems that the owner may not necessarily be aware of. Therefore we need to consider, among some, the following: Schedule regular visits to the vet– make sure your pet, be he/she a cat or dog or other animal that your vet knows and understands, sees the vet at regular intervals for a thorough check-up, especially if they are no longer that young. A good vet keeps proper records of visits and will be able to pick up issues, deteriorating health and possible future problems. He/she will immediately advise the best way forward; Diet– as they age, it may become necessary to adjust what you feed them. Make sure they get high quality food, which you can ask your vet about. He/she is the person that has come a long way with you and your pet, and he/she will know what the best foods are. However, nothing stops the owner from reading up what the best foods are for their type of dog, best

Ensure the dog or cat, also in old age, keeps a healthy body weight and does not become overweight, which presents problems such as diabetes, heart conditions and weakening joints. The mouth– bad breath is often a sign of bad teeth and other mouth diseases. Therefore, if the pet allows you to, brush their teeth with a product for pets; alternatively give them dental treats and toys to help them keep the teeth healthy and clean. There are products out there to assist. Keep the animal occupied and busy. Firstly, it is good for their mood and emotional well-being, but also to help with mobility. Exercise them within limits. You will know if they have a serious problem the vet needs to look into. Comfort– in addition to loving them even more than usual, if that is possible, make them comfortable, help them when they are slow to move, be patient with them, show special care, also in terms of where you let them rest and sleep. Dogs and cats that struggle to move like they used to, should be given soft bedding, additional blankets and the like to offer them a softer surface on which to sleep. The above are mere tips, even though they are very important and should be helpful. It is important to pay some extra attention to our senior pets – much like we do with our human families.
