  2. Get Around by Car As the public transportation options are limited, the best way to get around San Diego is to bring your own car or rent one. The highways can get clogged with traffic during rush hour, however, so plan your trips accordingly.

  3. Choose a Hotel Carefully Hotels by the beach can offer amazing views and easy access to the water. However, they can also be pricey. If you're looking save money, try finding a hotel downtown. You'll be able to experience all the city has to offer without overpaying.

  4. Check out the Seafood Due to its location along the Pacific, San Diego has a bunch of fantastic seafood restaurants. Favorites include the Oceana ire Seafood Room, the Pacific Beach Fish Shop, and the Blue water Seafood Market & Grill.

  5. Plan Your Beach Visits San Diego is home to a variety of beaches, each with their own distinct character, so pick out which ones you want to visit in advance. La Jolla is a great family-friendly destination, while Coronado Beach is an ideal spot for surfing.

  6. Choose a Season During the summer, San Diego's beaches and tourist destinations can feel overcrowded, and hotel rates are at their highest. If you visit in the early fall, you'll likely find excellent weather with smaller crowds. Winter can also be an ideal time to visit, although it may be too cold for swimming.

  7. Don't Limit Yourself to the Beach Although San Diego's beaches are famous, the city has plenty of other attractions on offer. Popular options include the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, and the San Diego Museum of Art.

  8. Explore the Gas lamp Quarter The historic Gas lamp Quarter is the home to much of San Diego's nightlife. There, you'll find a variety of popular restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. The area is easy to walk through, so take the time to check out the Victorian architecture.

  9. Pack for the Weather San Diego has sunny, mild weather throughout the year, with summer temperatures averaging in the 70's and winter temperatures averaging in the 60's. It can get cool in the evening, so be sure to pack a light jacket or sweatshirt along with warm-weather clothes.
