  2. Writing with Adverbs • A word that describes a verb is an ADVERB. Some adverbs answer the question “how?” • The dog barked LOUDLY. • The tiger waits PATIENTLY. • The girl sits QUIETLY.

  3. Adverbs that tell Where and When. • Some adverbs answer the question “Where?” • It has beautiful pictures INSIDE. • Some adverbs answer the question “When?” • Let’s travel to the beach TODAY.

  4. Adverbs That Compare • Comparing two actions: • If the adverb ends in -ly, use more. • The boy worked more steadily than me. • Other adverbs, use the ending -er. • The cow ran faster than the snail.

  5. Adverbs That Compare • Comparing three or more actions. • If the adverb ends in -ly, use most. • The woman sang most beautifully of all. • Other adverbs, use the ending -est. • The ant worked the hardest of all the insects.

  6. Using Words That Mean “NO.” • Careful speakers do not use two words that mean no (not, none, nobody, never, etc…) in the same sentence. • Wrong: I don’t know no one named Sue. • Correct: I don’t know anyone named Sue.
