  1. NEF – NOMMA NEF progress report presented to the ICC/CTC October 19, 2006 Location Hilton Kansas City Airport Kansas City, MO

  2. Progress Since Last CTC Meeting • NEF – NOMMA has been working to find qualified independent researchers • NOMMA is presently working with 6 different research entities who have shown an interest in performing the research. • Of the 6 entities currently 1 has requested us to go through the CDC and a second has requested us to proceed through OSHA.

  3. Current Interested Researchers • WESTAT – Fence Study • UNLV/Triad Dr. Guadagnoli • Exponent - Research Firm • Dr. Istre – Dallas Texas • West Virginia University Injury Control Research Center • SAVIR’s

  4. Impartiality Is Important! NOMMA is making a strong emphasis on the importance to the researchers that the studies be conducted to strict impartiality. • Need “checks and balances” to ensure truly objective research. • Considering the idea of creating a Protocol Committee to review how research was designed and provide honest reviews. • The idea is that a “broader sets of hands” will help keep the project unbiased and credible.

  5. WESTAT • This firms team conducted previous research on Pool Fence Climbing in the early 1990’s • This is not a Injury Prevention Research Center, but do impartial studies for government agencies. • www.westat.com • Mr. James Jenness current contact.

  6. UNLV – Triad Consulting, Inc. • Mark Guadagnoli, Ph.D. a full professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas • Primary area of study are in Motor Learning, Motor Control, and Human Factors research • Additionally he is Senior Scientist at Triad Consulting, Inc. • www.triadconsultinginc.com

  7. Exponent • This is a large research firm • This is a new contact that was made just this week and we will have more information on them in a interim report to be released • www.exponent.com

  8. Dr. Istre – Dallas, Texas • Dr. Istre’s study has been presented to this committee previously. • Dr. Istre’s concern is noted for older buildings as his findings concluded this is where the injuries are occurring. • Not interested, not his field and has directed us to the CDC's Home & Leisure division for referrals

  9. West Virginia University Injury Control Research Center • Jim Helmkamp, PhD, MS, FACE is the director. • Is very interested but request that we work through OSHA. • Does not look hopeful as our issue is not about the work place, as much as a home issue, as well as, being centered around kids age 1 – 3. • Are continuing talks

  10. SAVIR’s • Their board of directors turned us down for working directly with us. • They will still make our request for researchers know to their membership. • Has offered possibly help with getting reviewers to give credit to this research when completed.

  11. Time frame: Goal for release of report • October 19, 2006: Provide this present report at the CTC meeting in Kansas City, MO. • December 3 -5, 2006: Produce a researcher and a methodology for the study. • February – March 2007: Produce preliminary findings by the researcher, by the researcher. • April – May 2007: Have a report for the CTC. • August 2007: 2008/2009 dead for code presentations.
