  1. CAN DRONES HELP KEEP OUR ECONOMY AFLOAT DURING THE PANDEMIC?

  2. Global pandemics can cause fear, uncertainty and panic among billions of people all over the world, and the current crisis is no different. With vast swathes of citizens being told to stay inside their homes, social distancing implemented on a grand scale, and hundreds of thousands of businesses being forced to closed, could drones help keep our economy afloat? Drones and Covid-19: Throughout the global pandemic, government decision makers, industry stakeholders and drone companies have been getting together to discuss how drones could best be used to assist with relief efforts.

  3. The general consensus has been that provided state and local government have given their input and enough credible data has been shared, then they have a strong role to play in such a public emergency, and in fact, they are already being used. Drones have so far been used to implement social distancing, monitor people’s movements, and carry medical supplies, food and other life-saving essentials to those in need, all the while, minimizing human contact.

  4. THEDRONERESPONDERS Public Safety Alliance: This fast growing, non-profit program that supports the safety of the public where drones are concerned, has created a Covid-19 Task Force to learn and share ways in which drones can help during the health crisis. Dispersing crowds or small groups of people is one way in which drones are proving to be immensely helpful to local and state police forces, along with monitoring vulnerable street dwellers, and as far afield as China, they have been used to spray disinfectant.

  5. Concessions for start-ups? Some drone manufacturers have been giving out their products to start-ups and other businesses free of cost, or at a fraction of the original cost, offering them the chance to pay for them once the crisis is over. This move may have enabled smaller businesses to stay afloat during these difficult times and can help larger companies get quickly back on their feet when better times arrive. Should drone deliveries get underway? With so much talk about drones being used as a delivery service, there has perhaps never been a more appropriate time for this to begin happening on a large scale.

  6. Social distancing is a given with drones, so they can be safely used to distribute consumer goods, medical supplies and many other items during such a pandemic. While the commercial drone industry has been going from strength to strength in recent years (in fact, ever since its’ creation, really), those involved could never have envisaged that drone use within society might one day prove to be so important, due to social distancing. For those involved, they’re happy to be able to help find solutions to some of our most pressing problems during the pandemic, and if drones can help keep economies afloat while gaining a better reputation among the general public as a result, so much the better.
