Wireless Router Security • Important things to know: • Change the Default SSID name (network name) • Disable the SSID Broadcast • Use Encryption such as WEP, WPA • Change the Default Username and Password!!! • http://www.phenoelit.de/dpl/dpl.html • Use NAT with DHCP, a feature built into most routers, so that outsiders can only see the router.
Getting a Stronger Signal • Change the Channel. • Move the router off the floor and away from walls and metal objects • When possible put the router in a central location. Range is about 300 ft. indoors.
Setting up Your Client Computer • If you have Odyssey Client installed you may need to disable it. • Use the Windows Client if possible (because it is a common interface) • If the wireless client for windows is enabled then it should automatically detect available wireless networks that are in range.

Travel • Can I get online wherever I go now that I have my wireless laptop setup? • Maybe and Maybe not. • I am staying at a hotel, can I get online when I get there? • Most hotels offer wireless internet access, it is best to check with the hotel before you leave.
