  1. Dearest  Annabelle A narrative written by Molly, Ailsa, Arlo

  2. PEriod Mystery- Missing or Murder?  A mystery films plot revolves around the attempt to solve a crime or problem. In order to solve the circumstances of an issue there is usually a detective of private investigator through clues, investigation and clever deduction. Suspense is an important part of a mystery which is created by a change in camera angles, soundtracks, heavy shadows and surprising plot twists. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY

  3. Annabelle's Full movie SYNOPSIS The overall film narrative follows a father who is in desperate search for his daughter Annabelle that went missing when she was 6- when running with their beloved family dog through the woods outside their large family estate home. He holds immeasurable guilt for losing his daughter and ten years after the event has continued to look for her. There are constant flashbacks-each time more of the plot revolving -to the day that she went missing where we would see him sit with her in her favourite rocking chair watching the birds jumping between trees and world passing while telling her stories of his childhood adventures. As he shuts its eyes it cuts to him singularly staring out of the window rocking back and forth on the chair. As it continues, we see his family trying to tell him that she isn’t coming back and the leading chief investigator visiting his house every week in an attempt to gain more evidence on his only unsolved missing persons case. He continues to be told that he needs to move on etc and we see him drive his wife (the mother of Annabelle away). We see him continuing to try to live his life and failing and then attempting to end his life. The film ends with him in a prison hospital where he wakes up and the doctor says that he tried to commit suicide and is in need of psychiatric help as he is imagining scenarios like his daughter’s disappearance- we then realise that he killed her and his wife.

  4. Shot 1- Establishing shots of the woods. Shot 2- Close up shot of girl's face- horizontal as she is running past trees (heavy breathing and short takes as go past tree trunks).- Tracking. Story Board of the opening Sequence Shot 3- Long shot from behind the girl- looking behind Shot 4 - Girl seen innocently playing around in woods and singing Shot 5 - Shot 6 - A sudden sound of mans foot seen stepping on branches and making a loud noise Girl seen scared and concerned about the sound she has  just heard

  5. Shot 4- Tracking to close- up to girls eye. Story Board of the opening Sequence… Shot 5- Match cut shot ends at extreme close up to man’s eye through magnifying glass. Shot 6- Desk/ table showing many objects- extreme close ups- lowkey lighting. (shadowy)

  6. Shot 7- There will be close ups of newspaper clippings which say titles like “The missing girl”- which is an idea taken from Arlos pitch. Shot 8- Shot of hand with wedding ring which he touches and moves Story Board of the opening Sequence… Shot 10- We see old letters with the name ‘my dearest daughter Annabelle’ written in a cursive font on the front. Then close up to certain words written on unenclosed letters for example ‘in god’s name I shall find you’ ‘I miss you’ ‘your mother was so proud’ etc. Shot 9- Picture of girl in frame- we see the man caress the old frame and see a close to his face looking remorseful with a tear trickling down his cheek.

  7. Shot 13- There is then a shot up to a window and then giving the illusion that you have gone through the middle of the window (from inside to outside). Shot 11- Taking an element from Ailsas idea we see the man sitting with his head down and shadows from the window cast across his face- which is remained in low key lighting and hidden. (silhouette shots). There is are close ups to him clasping a cross and to his mouth showing that he is praying.  Shot 12-  Track back down to room with fire and rocking chair. And goes to the eery widow. Story board of the opening Sequence… Shot 14- We get a short and sharp flash back to his daughter running in the forest.  Shot 15- Camera tracks through the woods into hole in the ground and match cuts back to the eye in the magnifying glass.

  13. The Soundtrack For the soundtrack that will be played throughout the opening sequence of my film I decided to choose a piece of music with an ambiguous melody and variations in tone and dynamics. This will help to create a suspenseful and slightly sinister/unpredictable atmosphere to the scene. Favorite soundtrack-

  14. The opening shot of this opening sequence is an establishing shot of the large house with low key lighting at dusk creating a spooky and sinister atmosphere. We already intended to do this as our opening shot and this clip gives a good idea into the positioning, angling and perspective that we could use within our version of this shot.  I think that we could take inspiration from the colour schemes, lighting and interior design of the rooms to help us create an authentic mysterious visual effect to the audience. The camera shot sequences as we are moved between rooms is quite long and they use focus pulls and zoom shots in order to lengthen the suspense of the take and reveal more of the set. Influences- Knives out

  15. Influences- Wind river There is a large intro to the opening sequence with a narration voice over with blackout- although we do not have the time to have a large opening due to the time limit of the opening sequence we could however use a few elements of voice over narration. For example when we the man is reading the letters and newspapers we could have the man do a voice over of a few lines and titles of what is written to help give context to the opening sequence. After the voice over there is then a wide establishing shot showing a mountainous icy landscape and a girl running away from the shot fast and in panic. This would be similarly to a shot that we would like to take when the girl is running through the forest- with the addition of handheld shot which is also used within this scene of Wind River (to give the POV of the person chasing).  After the establishing shot of the girl running you get a jump cut to the girls face in medium close up in the foreground showing her out of breath and scared. There is then the sound of heavy breathing as she is running (ambient sound) which i also intend to add to the girl running in the forest shots in my opening sequence idea.  The scene then ends with the establishing shot of the icy mountain scene again with the movie title appearing in the middle of the shot. We could potentially use this at the end of our opening sequence.

  16. The practical considerations

  17. Back WHERE…? THE PRACTICALITY IS PERFECT! The main filming can happen in the main Hurtwood House building and the woods on the grounds. The close upshots of the study with the desk, books, letters, pictures, investigation board, spy glass etc can be set up in the TV studio to also help achieve the changing and specific lighting with extreme close upshots and shadows. For the remaining set (the room with a statement window and rocking chair which is very bare) we would either find a room in one of the houses on/off campus or simply use a projection onto a wall in the TV studio. This means that the footage shooting of the opening sequence could all be done on campus making it more practical and easily accessible. END

  18. Back WHO…? There is only one main character featured within the opening sequence who is a middle-aged man (in his 40s)- meaning if we were to cast the best choice would be a teacher. We would preferably like use someone with some acting experience as they should be able to convey the characters emotions simply through his facial expressions. We also need a very short feature of a little girl who looks young between the ages of 5-8 running through the forest. After being in contact with our main candidates Stuart has kindly agreed to take on the role of Andrew and we are working out logistics on his daughter's participation.  Our main candidate (Andrew)Our main candidate (Annabelle) END Stuart Butcher Elodie Butcher
