  1. FACTORS INFLUENCING A SOLAR PANEL INSTALLATION

  2. Are you thinking about getting a solar panel installation? If so, did you know there are certain factors that can affect your solar connection? These variables can impact how much solar power you can generate but also whether your home is suitable for a panel fitting in the first place. Listed below are factors that can influence a solar panel installation: Direction of the Roof This is a major variable that can influence your solar power capability. To produce the maximum amount of solar power, the panels must be placed on a southern or south-western facing roof. This doesn’t mean that other roof directions won’t work. It simply reduces the efficiency of your solar panels. For example, a panel that faces east or west produce up to 15% less power than their south-west facing counterparts.

  3. Access to Direct Sunlight The angle of your solar panels is a very important point to consider. For maximum efficiency, they must be mounted between 30° to 60°. In case your roof is flat, consider using an angled bracket to improve the amount of sunlight being absorbed by the panels. Amount of Shade You may have a south-western exposure and an angled roof but if there are tall trees in this directional path, then your panels won’t receive the amount of sunlight necessary. You may want to have these trimmed before installation.

  4. Weather Conditions A sunny, clear day is optimal weather for maximum solar panel performance. When there is zero cloud coverage, your panels are receiving a vast amount of light. Rainy and windy conditions do not influence solar panel output. In fact, these conditions help to clear dirt and debris from the panels. When there are clouds, your panels will still continue to work except they’ll only produce around one third of their output.

  5. Seasons In the winter, the sun is positioned lower on the horizon. This means you may have to improve your panels’ efficiency by placing it at 60°. During the summer months, the optimal angle for panels is 30°. To make these panel adjustments a lot easier, consider installing an adjustable mounting bracket.
