  1. Most Effective Ways for Hail Damage Repair

  2. Did your car get hit during the hail season and needs hail damage repairs? There are a number of ways to repair hail damage and here are the top picks: Remove and Replace If a part of your car has been hit with heavy hail damage you may have to replace it instead of repairing it. Hoods, fenders, and trunk lids which are bolt-on parts are the ones that can be easily removed and replaced. In the case of heavy damage it is usually less expensive to replace these parts than repairing them.

  3. Traditional Repair A body filler can be used to repair hail damage. This requires you to grind the repair area to metal, feather edge the paint edges, apply body filler and then block sand the body filler. When using this method it important to not overheat the metal during the grinding process.

  4. Old School Method Some dents and thinner metal are not suitable for this repair method as it uses heat to raise the metal. Using an oxyacetylene torch the metal around the dent is heated in a spiral motion. Working from the outside and towards the center dent in a spiral motion. This causes the metal to rise. A slight tap to the high area with a body hammer will relax the metal. Lastly, using a body file the metal level is cross filed until the dent is gone. If there is not a dimple with paint in it, then the dent has been repaired. As the metal cools, the high area will flatten back out to a level flat surface. Then you can feather edge the paint, prime, block, and paint. This is a quick and fast method that eliminates the filler and block sanding filler steps. However, this is not a good method to use on newer vehicles. The metal is too thin and overheating and warping the metal or filing too much metal off when using the body file are only a few of the problems that may occur.

  5. Paintless Dent Repair Paintless dent repair is becoming a readily used method for hail damage repair. The paintless dent repair is done through the process of getting behind the dent without the need to paint the outside of the paint surface. This method is used on many of the parts that are not replaced, such as roofs, quarter panels, bedsides, etc. However, the tools are expensive and requires much practice to master paintless dent repair, which is why it is better to let a professional do it.
