  2. What is Anthropometry??? • Anthropometry is a Greek word derived from • Anthropos, "human“ • Metron, "measure“ • It refers to the measurement of the individual human. • The study of anthropometry is the study of human body measurements to assist in understanding human physical variations.

  3. Introduction •  Anthropometry plays an important role in industrial design, clothing design, ergonomics and architecture where statistical data about the distribution of body dimensions in the population are used to optimize products. • Changes in lifestyles, nutrition, and ethnic composition of populations lead to changes in the distribution of body dimensions, and require regular updating of anthropometric data collections.

  4. Parameters of Anthropometry • Age Dependents Factors • Weight • Height • Head Circumference • Chest Circumference • Age Independents Factors • Mid-arm circumference (1-5 years) • Skinfold thickness • Mid upper arm/height ratio

  5. What is ANTHROPOLOGY? The social science that studies the origins and social relationships of human beings Social Science:The branch of science that studies society and the relationships of individual within a society

  7. WHAT IS ETHNOLOGY? • The branch of anthropology that deals with the division of humankind into races and with their origins and distribution and distinctive characteristics.

  8. PHYSICALANTHROPOLOGY? • The branch of anthropology that deals with human evolutionary biology, physical variation, and classification. • The branch of anthropology dealing with the genesis and variation of humans

  9. WHAT IS CULTURAL/SOCIALANTHROPOLOGY? • The branch of anthropology that deals with human culture and society. • The scientific study of the development of human cultures based on ethnologic, ethnographic, linguistic, social, and psychological data

  10. WHAT IS ARCHAEOLOGY • The branch of anthropology that studies prehistoric people and their cultures

WHAT IS ETHNOGRAPHY? • The branch of anthropology that deals with the scientific description of specific human cultures. • For the ethnographer there are two stages, the first ofwhich is fieldwork, which is the process of observingand recording data. • The second stage is the production of a written description and analysis of the subject under study.

  12. WHAT IS BODY MECHANICS • Body Mechanics is the study of proper body movement to prevent and correct posture problems, reduce stress and enhance physical capabilities.
