  3. THE NATIONAL FRAMEWORK FOR VALUES EDUCATION IN AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLS Underpins the Values Education Program 2004-2008

  4. 4 Elements of Values Education Program • Funding to conduct values education forums. • The Good Practice Schools Projects • Professional learning and curriculum resources • National activities

  5. 1] School Forums/Events • May be a single event or a series of events. • May be conducted by individual schools or as a cluster. • Forums/events will be funded. MUST BE HELD BEFORE JUNE 2008

  6. 2] Values Education Good Practice Schools Project • Stage 1 – 25 clusters across Australia, 6 clusters in Queensland • Stage 2 – 25 clusters across Australia, 5 clusters in Queensland

  7. 3] Resources to help! • 2006 – Resource Kit sent to all schools plus resources to integrate values into KLAs and school mission/ethos statements. • 2007 – Materials looking at the integration of values into the personal development of the student – how we negotiate this in our teaching. • 2008 – Values education in intercultural and global contexts.

  8. 4] National Activities • National activities including projects with national bodies representing teachers, parents, principals and teacher educators and an annual National Values Education forum.

  9. VISION • Articulating, in consultation with their school community, the school’s mission/ethos • Developing student responsibility in local, national and global contexts and building student resilience and social skills • Ensuring values are incorporated into school policies, practices and curriculum • Reviewing the outcomes of values education practices

  10. Values and Science • Are values mentioned in the syllabus documents? • How can we add a ‘values’ dimension to our Science lessons? • Should we do so?
