  3. How it all began • George II founded Georgia in1732 • He named Georgia after himself • Later he gave Georgia to eight Lords Proprietors they gave it to twenty one trustees then they gave the job of setting up the colony to James Edward Oglethorpe

  5. Why this Glorious Colony was Founded • George the second started the colony so that the Spanish couldn't start a colony an the area • However James Ogelthorpe had a vision to make a refuge for all the poor people to pay of the debt

Colonial people you will meet! • When the first white settlers arrived they found Native Americans already living in the area • Until African slave trade became more common Indians were often forced into slavery • Not only debtors from English prisons settle in Georgia but also white Europeans from many other countries came seeking for religious freedom and cheap land • Also missionary settlers came trying to convert natives

  9. Beautiful Weather and Bountiful land • Winters were milder then the harsh English winters • The summers were long, hot and humid • The only thing that bothered settlers were violent thunderstorms and gnats, flees, and lice that the dry summers brought in

  11. Uhh worship • Not only was Georgia a place for debtors but also Ogelthrope envision Georgia as a place as “ foreigners persecuted for conscience sake.” By this he meant that people of all religions could take refuge here so this colony has a tradition of religious freedom.

Georgia land owners (free white men) elected representatives from among them selves to the common house of assembly • These law makers were watched over by the general assembly whose members were appointed by the trustees • and above those two ruling bodies was the governor the governor had the most power of them all since he represented the colonies owners who looked upon as Georgia as a business investment.
