  11. .nz Operations • Office of the Domain Name Commissioner created March 2002 • Shared Registry Service introduced Oct 2002 • First competitive registrar went live Dec 2002 • Domainz was formerly .nz registry, now stabilising registrar • 24 authorised competitive registrars now operating • SRS is open source, source code to be released shortly

New Internet Initiatives • Project Probe Initiative • Intent to deliver broadband to all schools / academic institutes • NZ$10 – 99 million (US$6 - $45 million) Government Funding • Internet2 – Next Generation Internet (NGI): • Consortium formed & seeding funding obtained • CEO employed • Design and Build commenced • Two very successful Internet Exchanges in NZ: • Auckland Peering Exchange (APE) • Wellington Internet Exchange (WIX)

  16. IT Events • “Knowledge Wave” conference held in Auckland last week. • InternetNZ summit tentatively scheduled for late May • NZNOG / Uniforum conference scheduled for mid July
