How to Estimate Roofs Using Pitch Gauge Pitch Gauge is a cutting edge application for your smart phone and tablet that allows for quick and accurate roofing estimates without climbing the roof.
To get started, open Pitch Gauge on your device. Then, lay it on its side (on a level surface) and press (& hold) the “calibrate” button until it completes the count down and says “CALIBRATED.” 2 1
To measure a roof like this with more than one distinct section, divide the different parts of the house into separate sections and calculate the area for each individually.
Start by measuring the length of one section (be sure to include overhangs), and enter that data into the “Length” field of the square calculator.
Measure the width of the same section (be sure to include overhangs), and enter that data into the “Width” field of the square calculator.

Choose cut level 1 – 5 depending on complexity of the section. ENTER
Press “Calculate” to find your total number of squares. PRESS! 2 1
If your roof is broken down into more than one section, press the “+” and continue once again, beginning with slide 5. PRESS!
Once you have entered the data for all of the sections (slides 5 - 12 ), press “MR” (Memory Recall) to find your total number of squares. PRESS!
