  2. What is TARGET DRUGS TO ANTIGEN ? Antigensas drug target. Special drugs have been designed that identify and attack cells that have a particular type of antigens. These drugs are commonly called monoclonal antibodies and they can attack only the type of cell that contains the specific targetantigens. Examples of CD antigens targeted in lymphoma treatment: 1. Rituxan (Rituximab) - a monoclonal antibody againstCD20.

  3. 2. Zevalin (IbritumomabTiuxetan) - another antibody against CD20, tagged with a radiation emitting substance (Y90). 3. Bexxar (Tositumomab) - similar to Zevalin. 4. Gazyva (Obinutuzumab): targets CD20 antigen, used treatment for small lymphocytic lymphoma/chronic lymphocytic leukemia. 5. Arzerra (Ofatumumab): targets CD 20 antigen, used in SLL/CLL. 6. Campath (Alemtuzumab): targets CD52 antigen in T-cell lymphomas. 7. Adcetris (Brentuximabvedotin): targetsCD30 and is attached to a chemotherapy drug. Used in anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

ANTIGEN TARGETED CANCER THERAPIES • Monoclonal Antibodies • It is a new type of "targeted" cancer therapy.  Antibodies are part of the immune system.  Normally, the body creates antibodies in response to an antigen (such as a protein in a germ) entering the body.  • The antibodies attach to the antigen in order to mark the antigen for destruction by the body's immune system.  • In the laboratory, scientists analyze specific antigens on the surface of cancer cells (target) to determine a protein to match the antigen.  Then, using protein from animals and humans, scientists work to create a special antibody that will attach to the target antigen.  • An antibody will attach to a matching antigen like a key fits a lock.  • This technology allows treatment to target specific cells, causing less toxicity to healthy cells.   • Monoclonal antibody therapy can be done only for cancers in which antigens have been identified.  • e.g. Alemtuzumab ,Gemtuzumabozogamicin,Rituximab ,Trastuzumab ,IbritumomabTioxetan
