  1. Stem Cell Therapy: A Valuable Approach to interstitial cystitis

  2. INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a complex condition that is identified by chronic inflammation of the bladder muscle layers.

  3. INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), bladder pain syndrome (BPS), and chronic pelvic pain (CPP).

  4. WHAT CAUSES IC? • Repeated bacterial infections • Spinal cord trauma • Autoimmune disorders • Weakened or dysfunctional pelvic floor muscles • Trauma to the bladder lining • Hypersensitivity or inflammation of pelvic nerves

  5. SYMPTOMS OF IC • Pelvic pressure or discomfort • Frequent urination day and night • Chronic or intermittent pain in the pelvis • Urinary urgency

  6. POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS OF IC • anxiety and depression • lower quality of life as a result of frequent urination and pain • sleep disturbances • reduced bladder capacity due to stiffening of the bladder wall • issues with self-esteem and social embarrassment

  7. TREATMENT No single treatment works for all people with IC/BPS. Treatment must be chosen for each patient based on symptoms. Most treatments are aimed at symptom control. IC/BPS treatment is often done in phases with constant monitoring of your pain and quality of life.

  8. STEM CELLS THERAPY FOR IC Many people with interstitial cystitis may benefit from stem cell therapy. The bladder can benefit considerably from the potent anti-inflammatory properties of fat-derived stem cells. Additionally, this encourages bladder repair. More than 70% of patients respond favourably.
