Aerospace Education Mission • To educate both CAP members and the general public on the important role aviation and space has played and will continue to play in America’s future. • To encourage our nation’s youth to consider aerospace careers and to promote civil aviation to local communities.

  4. Aerospace Education IN CAP • Civil Air Patrol aerospace curriculum and programs support science, math, language arts, reading, history, and technology education, while providing teachers with the tools to teach in extraordinary ways. • Our curriculum meets national content standards and addresses S.T.E.M. (Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Mathematics) initiatives.

  5. Aerospace Education Membership(AEM) • A special category of Civil Air Patrol membership • Open to any individual or organization that has an interest in Aerospace Education • Membership $35 a year

  6. Membership Benefits • CAP membership card • AEM certificate • CAP bimonthly Volunteer magazine • AEM bimonthly Newsletters • Educational products developed especially for AEMs, as well as other curriculum products

AE Curricula Materials • Materials meet national teaching standards • Support team and thematic teaching • Support teamwork and problem solving • Provide hands-on activities that enforce curriculum objectives • Provide “real-world” applications of concepts currently being taught • Available for grades K-12

  12. Civil Air Patrol’s Rocketry Program • Download from CAP Aerospace Website • Consists of 3 levels • Online certificates of completion for each level • Excellent enrichment activity

Aerospace Education Excellence Program (AEX) • Free program available to current AEMs • Age-appropriate curriculum • Sign up anytime during the school year • 1 hour of college credit thru Adams State College for an additional fee • Brochures with application and completion report may be downloaded from AE website

Fly a Teacher Program For AEMs: • To participate, contact jstone@cap.gov. • Your name and contact information will be given to the Point of Contact (POC) for the Fly A Teacher Program in your area. • The state POC will contact you concerning a time and date that will work for all involved. • The Fly A Teacher orientation flight may or may not be accompanied by a workshop.

  15. Fly a Teacher Program • Participants receive orientation flight (some may include workshops) • CAP wings and units conduct the flights • Flights are funded thru NHQ AE; first come, first served • Funding cycle begins Oct 1

  16. Educator Grants • Sponsored by the Air Force Association (AFA) • Two grant cycles per year: March 31 September 30 • Applications may be downloaded at www.cap.gov/ae or requested by mail

  17. Educator Grants • Grants – up to $250 • Grants applied toward AE related items/activities • Grant recipients complete a short follow-up form

  19. National Conference Highlights • Encourage the learning of science, math, reading/language arts, history, technology and careers through Aerospace Education. • Earn Continuing Education Units (CEU). • Attend National standards-based, hands-on sessions by leading aerospace educators.
