Purpose • Determine customer acceptability of IP-based communications services • Paradigms, features, functionality of Network (IP network), Services and OSS • Targeted at small-to-large businesses • Services included: • IP Telephony: BI-direction dialing (on/off net) with public/private dialing • Desktop Services features, including IP Phones • Voice messaging • Technology learning • Implement solutions directionally consistent with NGN goals • Not intended to be long-term service platform • Ask questions, try technology and apply learning to long term architecture for network, services and OSS
StrategiesCustomers • Customer Selection • 10 to 15 locations, 30% to 40% of customer site traffic on the trial • Will allow some reduction of features • Willing to turn off the service at end of trial • Internal users first, then external customer(s) • Focus on learning about customer experience and acceptability
Lab Trial High Level Objectives • Testing of customer acceptability of IP Communications Services for business customers • Handle customer communications services on a common IP infrastructure • Core telephony, Desktop services, voice messaging (MWCOM trial) • Intranet services, internet connections (company) • Demonstrate connectivity with customer ATM, FR, PL or IP/VPN • Validate OSS concepts and initial implementations • Measure performance characteristics • Demonstrate initial security solution • Reduce infrastructure, development and operations costs • Demonstrate Operations • Create small number of ‘new’ communications services for inclusion

Security Current Strategy: • Use IPSEC AH (authentication header) with IKE (Internet Key Exchange) between our “known” systems, including SIP servers and gateways • Use SIP sender authentication and message integrity for mobile clients Long Term Strategy: • The long-term model will require development of an effective public key infrastructure and the use of X.509v3 (or newer) certificates Issues: • IPSEC is relatively new and does not address mobility • No public key infrastructure in place today
