  3. Cuban Missile Crisis 1959- Castro overthrows Batista. Cuba ecomes a Communist State Kennedy, the CIA, The Bay of Pigs and Castro

  4. “Assumption is the mother of all screw ups” LSD, exploding cigars, etc. Castro seeks Soviet Aid

  5. October 1962- Start of the Cuban Missile Crisis ICBM- Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles IRBM- Inter-Mediate Range Ballistic Missiles

  10. October 22nd- Kennedy goes on TV, announces quarantine 23rd and 24th, Premier Khruschev calls this a violation of international law and will not comply “We’re eyeball to eyeball and I think the other fellow just blinked”

  11. Missiles out of Cuba? -- Pledge not to attack Cuba -- IRBMs in Turkey After CMC, 1) continued buildup of nuclear forces 2) Attempts to prevent these situations- hotline
