  3. Importance of Vedas and Shastras The Vedas are the primary sacred texts of the Hindus which command the highest authority. Since they were not authored by man but revealed by GOD to the enlightened rishis, they are self-authoritative, requiring no external endorsement or legitimacy. The Smruti shastras were written by the great seers based on the teachings they remembered from their spiritual masters. The authority of these shastras is derived from the spiritual standing of their authors and their congruence with the Vedas. The Smruti shastras include a large number of heterogeneous works like the Dharma Shastras, the Itihasas or epics (Ramayana and the Mahabharata), and the Puranas. marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  4. Vedic Knowledge Vedas are the oldest authoritative scriptures of Hinduism. Vedic knowledge is based on divine assertions received by the ancient seers in their metaphysical state. state of communion with the divine when the highest knowledge was revealed to them as they undertook severe penance for thousands of years. This was passed on to their disciples in an oral tradition. They were in a Vedic knowledge was thus transmitted to generations of men by word of mouth. The written tradition began after Europeans discovered the grandeur of the mystic, mysterious East. Thus began a history of recording these sacred utterances. Yet what is available today sadly is a fraction of the original. Even this has not been explored to the fullest; such is the depth of the content contained in the Vedas. marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  5. Archeology Dating The Civilization Pride of India’ is a book on the history of Indian Science. In a history book, it is important to get the dates right. The starting point for the dating of the Indus Valley civilization is the excavation in the 1920s, of the Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa sites in the Gangetic plains. Ø Multi level housing Ø Broad, well laid-out streets Ø A comprehensive drainage system Ø Public utilities like bathhouses marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  6. Architecture Temple Architecture Temples and stupas from Sanchi in Bihar to Tanjore in Tamilnadu vouch for the heights ancient India had scaled in architecture. Several references to architecture are found in Sanskrit literature - Vastu-shastra texts like Maya-mata, Manasara, Samarangana-sutradhara, Puranas like Matsya- purana, Agni-purana and secular literature like Brihat- samhita and Arthashastra. In this segment, a few examples are given on: Ø Selecting of stone for the construction of temples and monuments Ø Materials and specification of idols and Ø The tools used in architecture marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  7. Astrology in Ancient India Indian Astrology is as old as Vedas and Upanishads. It has been vindicated by the connoisseurs that Indian Astrology had already reached its zenith over millennium ago when other forms of occult were nonexistent. Till now, many ancient astrological works have been translated into different foreign languages. Indian Astrology was famous in ancient times and attracted many a foreign scholar who pursued their astrological research here; Ibn Batuta and Al Baruni were two prominent Arab scholars amongst them. Al Baruni was a skilled Sanskrit researcher who had arrived in India along with the notorious invader Mahmud Ghaznavi. During his 14 year long stay in India, i.e. from 1017 A.D. - 1031 A.D., he composed a number of astrological works, perhaps the most celebrated being Brahma-Gupta - an astrological treatise translated into Arabic by him, and named Indica. marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  8. Life Sciences In Ancient Indian In the Indian knowledge system, there is a clear-cut classification of creatures as living and moving. At the primary level, any being which possesses the five senses of perception - hearing, feeling (of touch), seeing, tasting and smelling - is living. The plants are living since they posses these five senses, as brought out beautifully in a conversation between the sages Bharadwaja and Bhrigu, quoted later. Plants, while having life, are stationary; they have no locomotion and therefore they are called. Sthavara = that which is fixed = plants (Stha = remain in a place) The next level of living things possesses locomotion, in addition to organs of perception. The entire animal kingdom - animals, reptiles, and birds - answers this additional test. Since the distinguishing characteristic of these beings is locomotion, these are referred to as: Jangama = that which goes = animals (Gacchathi = goes) The third in the hierarchy is the one which/who in addition to the tools of perception and action, also has the ability to think. marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  9. Best Managerial Practices Indian heritage goes back thousands of years. Although it is difficult to arrive at a firm figure it is a fair estimate to say that our scriptures go back to between 3000 and 5000 BC or thereabouts. A study of our ancient Indian scripture that includes the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana and Mahabharata besides Manusmriti and Arthashashtra reveals a veritable treasure trove. This treasure includes the finest guidelines into the way man is expected to behave towards his family, his society and his colleagues. In today’s modern times the world moves guided by modern managerial precepts at every step. Irrespective of whether the subject concerns finances and banking or the corporate sector, the production industry or the military and agriculture or the vast engineering field or the health services, management is what guides them all. In recent times we have seen how poor managerial practices have brought about chaos all over the world. This essay is an attempt to delve into our rich heritage and try to find out likely solutions in the Vedic and other scriptures to problems that confront modern man in the discharge of his or her managerial functions. marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  10. Mathematics, Astronomy and Medicines It is true that the major modern inventions in the field of science and technology are reflections of Vedic knowledge. They speak of the facts that were already mentioned in the Vedas over thousands years back. The modern replicas of scientific theories are in similitude with ‘revealed’ explanations of the Vedic scriptures. Any Vedic slokah reveals more than one meaning. For instance, an encrypted slokah in the 10th text of the Rig Veda apparently speaks in praise of Lord Indra. However, the slokah - when translated in a technical manner - unfolds the value of pi up to an impressive 28 digits. The accuracy of this calculation is quite fantastic which would even fail any modern-day computer. With great effort, today’s scientists have made the calculation of pi possible on computer, and that too only till 16 digits! marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  11. Medical Science Atharva-veda, the youngest of the four Vedas (around 5000 BCE), contains hymns on diseases and their treatment. The Atharva-veda also talks of the 8 branches of Ayurveda. Shilajit (black bitumen), a material used as a drug even today in Ayurveda, was found in the Mohenjodaro excavations (around 3500 BCE). These two are indicative of the scientific handling of diseases in India from a very early date. In this country, learning and preservation of knowledge has been through an oral tradition which is built on a succession of teacher-mentors and disciple-followers. In the field of medical science, these teacher-disciple lineages are traced to three original teachers: Atreya (Internal medicine) • Dhanvantari (Surgery) and • Kashyapa (Gynaecology and Paediatrics). marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  12. Ancient Indian Metallurgy Indian heritage in Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper, Zinc and Iron and Steel is a celebrated one. Smelting of metals and derivation of alloys was done since 3000 BCE in ancient India. In the exchanges of goods between India, Egypt and Rome, metal trade from India was significant. Indian tools made from iron and steel were in great demand for war as well as agriculture. Records show that the first supplies of the weapons that figure in the earliest recorded history of the people of Mediterranean came from India. As did Wootz steel, from which the famous Damascus blades were made. In fact, 'Wootz' derived its name from the Kannada word 'ukku' meaning crucible steel. Literary accounts suggest that steel from southern part of Indian subcontinent was exported to Europe, China, and countries of the Middle East. marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  13. Physical Science In all early civilizations, the study of the physical sciences was neither formalized nor separated from other branches of knowledge. And at least initially, there were few conscious attempts to study the theory of science independently of the practical innovations and technologies that required some application of scientific principles. In most cases, technological discoveries took place without any knowledge of the underlying scientific principles, through hit and trial, and by experience. Sometimes there was a vague or approximate awareness of the science, but the predominant focus remained on the utilitarian aspects of the technique, on practical efficacy, as opposed to how and why something worked or didn’t work. marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  14. Science and Spirituality This link contains interesting articles on diverse topics glorifying our ancient culture and civilization, which are not only informative but goes to prove the great insight our ancient sages possessed and also that the theories they had propounded were not just suppositions but based on scientific reasons. The idea is to reveal to the world of our glorious past, rich culture and heritage- to prove that at the time when the rest of the world was engulfed by ignorance, our country was blessed with enlightened sages. The articles given here are also ample testimony to the fact that our ancient sages, in their quest for ultimate knowledge, had delved deep into level of human consciousness in order to find solutions to the mystery of the world. They were successful because the conclusion they arrived upon emanated from deep state of meditation in which all the mysteries of the world were unfolded to them. marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  15. Time Era Dating The Mahabharata By definition, a ‘peak’ marks the beginning of a decline. Mahabharata is one of the celebrated peaks of the Hindu society. Besides the utterance of the Bhagavad-Gita, upanishad was delivered Mahabharata period. Although Lord Krishna won the day and helped Arjuna make up his mind and fight the war, Arjuna’s worst fears as to the consequence of the war certainly turned out to be true. Kings from 56 kingdoms participated in the 18-day war and lost their armies and lives. With this sudden removal of authority, anarchy set in and the Kali-yuga came into being. the Chandogya- during the marketing@rockmaxpan.com

  16. Vastu Shastra Vastu Shastra is the sacred holistic science of architecture and construction. The principles of Vastu have been derived from one of the ancient sacred books of Hinduism the Sthapathya Veda which is a part of Atharvana Veda one of the four main Vedas. Vastu refers to mansion or abode and Shastra refers to Science or knowledge. Vastu Shastra is found in manuals on all aspects of architecture namely spatial geometry, design, measurements, layout, ground preparation etc. They incorporate traditional Hindu beliefs by integrating architecture with nature and utilising symmetry, geometric patterns (yantras) and directional alignments. A few of the manuals also include information on astrology and rituals. marketing@rockmaxpan.com
