  1. ASTM A 387 Grade 11 Class 2 Plates Introduction ASTM A387 Grade 11 Class 2 plates are chromium-molybdenum alloy steel pressure vessel plates designed for elevated-temperature and high-pressure service. These plates are widely used in oil & gas, petrochemical, refineries, and power plants, where strength, heat resistance, and long-term reliability are critical.Class 2 plates are supplied in normalized and tempered condition, offering higher strength compared to Class 1. Material Overview ASTM A387 Grade 11 Class 2 plates are known for: Excellent performance at high temperatures Good resistance to hydrogen attack High tensile and yield strength Good creep resistance Reliable weldability with proper procedures This material is ideal for pressure vessels exposed to heat and pressure for long periods. Chemical Composition (Typical %) Element Percentage Carbon (C) 0.05 – 0.15 Manganese (Mn) 0.30 – 0.60 Silicon (Si) ≤ 0.50 Chromium (Cr) 1.00 – 1.50 Molybdenum (Mo) 0.45 – 0.65 Phosphorus (P) ≤ 0.035 Sulfur (S) ≤ 0.035 Iron (Fe) Balance

  2. Mechanical Properties (Class 2) Property Value Tensile Strength 515 – 690 MPa Yield Strength ≥ 310 MPa Elongation ≥ 18% Impact Testing As per specification Mechanical properties depend on plate thickness and heat treatment. Heat Treatment ASTM A387 Grade 11 Class 2 plates are supplied in: Normalized and Tempered (N+T) condition This heat treatment improves strength, toughness, and resistance to high-temperature service. Physical Properties Property Value Density ~7.85 g/cm³ Melting Range 1370 – 1425°C Thermal Conductivity Moderate Magnetic Properties Magnetic Applications ASTM A387 Grade 11 Class 2 plates are widely used in: Pressure vessels Boilers and boiler components Heat exchangers Reactors Storage tanks Oil refineries Petrochemical and chemical plants Power generation equipment

  3. Advantages of ASTM A387 Grade 11 Class 2 Plates Excellent strength at high temperatures Reliable performance under pressure Improved mechanical properties due to Class 2 heat treatment Long service life Industry-approved material for critical equipment Testing & Quality Assurance Chemical composition analysis Tensile testing Impact testing (if specified) Ultrasonic testing (UT) Visual and dimensional inspection Mill Test Certificate (MTC) as per EN 10204 3.1 Packaging & Supply Condition Plates supplied with edge protection Wooden skids or steel pallets Export-worthy packaging Heat numbers and traceability maintained Conclusion ASTM A387 Grade 11 Class 2 plates are a trusted material for high-temperature, high-pressure applications. Their chromium-molybdenum alloy composition, combined with normalized and tempered heat treatment, ensures strength, durability, and safety in critical industrial environments.
