  1. TINLEY PARK Arts Alive! BAND PARK DISTRICT BOARD MEETING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2000 Presenters: Jeanette Kreuz and Michael Riha

  2. Introduction • The band was established in 1987 by the Tinley Park-Park District under its then new “Arts Alive!” program to encourage, promote, teach and perform the fine arts in Tinley Park and the surrounding communities. • The band has performed throughout the Chicagoland area in benefit and public service concerts.

  3. Our Director • Stephen Platko became the band’s music director in 1990. • He is a graduate of Northwestern University. • After retiring, he has devoted his musical energies to the “Arts Alive!” music programs and to a career of composing and arranging music.

  9. OUR BAND (con’t) …plus other small ensembles for special occasions.

  10. OUR MEMBERSHIP • Band members range in age from 16 to 80+ years. • Members reside in communities from Kankakee to Chicago and many southern and western suburbs. • Members receive no monetary compensation for time spentrehearsing or performing.

  11. OUR SCHEDULE • As a representative of the Tinley Park-Park District, the Community Band maintains a very active schedule performing in Tinley Park and the surrounding area.

October 1999 • Tinley Park’s Oktoberfest Parade • Jazz Band in the Family Tent at Oktoberfest • Official Band Mini-Golf Outing at McCarthy Park November 1999 • Annual spaghetti dinner at American Legion December 1999 • Holiday Concert at Andrew High School • Brass and flute groups perform at Integrated Health Services in Oak Lawn

February 2000 • Candlelight Bowl at Tinley Park Bowl • Jazz Band at dinner dance at Maggianno’s Little Italy in downtown Chicago • Valentine’s Day dinner dance at Georgio’s Banquets in Orland Hills with the Tinley Park High School jazz band April 2000 • “Cavalcade of Bands” at Moraine Valley Community College May 2000 • Spring Concert at Tinley Park High School • Brass group at Memorial Day services at Chapel Hill Gardens South in Alsip

June 2000 • Concerts at McCarthy Park and Hobart, Indiana • “World Tour 2000” to Budingen and Dudelsheim, Germany August 2000 • Jazz band represents Tinley Park-Park Districton “Park District Conservation Day” at Illinois State Fair • Concerts at McCarthy Park and Bicentennial Park in Joliet September 2000 • Flute group at the Vogt Visual Art Center, Calvary Reformed Church in Orland Park and Covenant Presbyterian Church in South Holland. • Brass group at St. Mark’s United Church of Christ in Chicago Heights

  15. October 2000 • Oktoberfest parade • Jazz band for Octoberfest celebration at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Hometown • and more to come...

The band and its members have also performed at: • Rededication of the O’Hare Hilton • Tinley Park Historical Society Christmas program at the Landmark • Brementowne Little League Baseball Boosters Parade • City of Palos Heights • Tinley Park Village Hall • Combined concerts with Tinley Park grade school and high school bands

Dedication of Tinley Park Volunteer Fire Department Training Facility • Fine Arts Festival at the World Music Theatre • Valporaiso University Community Band Festival • Hines Veterans Hospital • Tinley Park gazebo dedication • Friends of Budingen—Sister Cities functions • Richard J. Daley College Graduation • St. George Catholic Church in Tinley Park • Musical about history of Tinley Park presented as part of village’s Centennial celebration • Summer picnic at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tinley Park • Art Fairs at Vogt Visual Art Center

  18. “Education Day”, a musical learning experience for the students of Tinley Park and surrounding communities, held at Prairie View Junior High, sponsored by the Illinois Arts Council, funded through a grant written by band member Jeanette Kreuz
