SAP calculations are a key part of the design process for any residential scheme. But do you know what are SAP calculations and why are these needed? No! Well, don’t worry, we have mentioned the important things that you should know about SAP. To begin with, let’s talk about what is SAP; the full form of SAP is Standard Assessment Procedure, and it is a system approved by the government for calculating the energy rating for a new dwelling in order to ensure that the new built complies with the building regulations and also with the energy and environmental policy initiatives. Set of SAP calculations determine TER (target emission rate), DER (dwelling emission rate), TFEE (target fabric energy efficiency) and DFEE (dwelling fabric energy efficiency). And for any building to comply with the norms set by the government, it is mandatory for the TER to be greater than or equal to DER, TFEE to be greater than or equal to DFEE. Why are SAP calculations needed? Besides demonstrating the building’s environmental performance, SAP calculations are also a legal requirement for all new build under part L (England & Wales), section 6 (Scotland), Part F1 (Northeren Ireland) of building standards.
