  4. WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "CONSUMER AWARENESS"? Consumerawarenessis makingthe consumer awareof His/herrights. It means that consumers areaware of productsor services, its characteristicsand the other marketing P’s(place to buy, price,and promotion). Itencourageswhich helps consumersfunction more efficientlyin the marketplace.

  6. IMPORTANCE OF CONSUMER RIGHTS Consumersareentitled to rightsasconsumers, and theserights provide protectionto consumers. Itprotectsconsumeragainstproducts, productionprocesses and serviceswhich are hazardousto healthor life. T o be given thefactsneeded to make an informed choice,and to be protectedagainst dishonest or misleading advertising and labeling. T oreceive a fairsettlement of justclaims, including compensation for misrepresentation, shoddygoodsor unsatisfactoryservices.

  7. RESPONSIBILITY OF A CONSUMER CriticalAwareness:Theresponsibilityto bemorealertand questioningaboutthepriceandqualityofgoodsandserviceswe consume. Action :The responsibility to assert ourselves by acting to ensure thatweget afairdealaslongas weremainpassiveconsumerswe willcontinueto beexploitedandmanipulated. Socialconcern:Theresponsibilityto consider theimpactsofour consumption patterns and lifestyles on other citizens especially thepoor disadvantagedorpowerlessconsumerswhethertheybe inthelocalnationalorinternationalcommunity. Solidarity:Theresponsibilitytocometogetherandorganize consumers in order to enhance the strength and influence requiredtopromote andprotect our interests.

  8. DUTIES OF A WELL INFORMED CUSTOMER While purchasing the goods,consumershould look at the quality of the product,the markedprice,guaranteeor warranteeperiod. Consumer shouldpreferably purchase standardize products which contain seal ofISI or Agmark. A consumer should ask for a cash-memo and warranteecard. Consumer must be aware of hisrightsand duties. He should know the method of how to proceed,ifhe is cheated.
