Agenda • Frequency Performance • Generator Performance • System Warnings • PGBTs • Interesting Events in April and May • Planning for the World Cup
Generator Performance SIR performance No SIRs in April, and only 1 in May, and 1 in June so far.
System Warnings No System Warnings issued since the last Forum (last NISM - Thu 13 March).
Monthly PGBTs 4 PGBTs since last Forum
Assumptions for demand • All of the historic Pick-Ups are Pre Betta, 10% has been added to the forecasts in to take that into account. • We expect a drop in demand of approximately 1000 – 1500 MW from 60 minutes before the Kick-Off. • We expect a demand drop of approximately 1000 – 1200 MW after the start of the second half. • If the weather is bright and sunny, because it is a Saturday there may be a ‘pub effect’ leading to a greater drop in demand during the match and slightly lower pickups.
TV coverage • Because electricity demand is predicted to rapidly increase around the England games, there is considerable media interest in National Grid’s role in managing this. • At Wokingham, there is pre-recorded filming this week for Sky, GMTV and BBC. • We are expecting this to be broadcast at breakfast time on Friday morning to coincide with the start of the World Cup along with all the other TV coverage. • Various press releases are being issued. • Profiles of key forecasting and control staff will be on our website.
Summary • Frequency performance stable • Significant reduction in SIRs • Reduction in number of agreed PGBTs • No system warnings since mid March • Interesting events in April and May • Planning for the World Cup
