  6. Everyone is responsible for health and safety. You must make sure that: • You report any danger, and if safe to do so identify the hazard. • You take care of yourself and others. • You use any equipment in the way you have been trained. • You know and recognise warning signs and what to do. You can also help by: • Not placing any items that block fire exits or doorways. • Turn off equipment when not in use. • Know where your first aid kit is and who is your First Aider. • If you hurt yourself report it to a member of staff. Make safe the activity. • Leave lights on • Close (but do not lock) all windows and doors (If Safe to do so). • Evacuate - all personnel (using the nearest exit) • Report to the assembly point at far end of parade ground (small car park). • Duty NCO or Duty staff to take register • Remain at the assembly point until given further instructions. On Hearing Evacuation Alarm DO NOT REMOVE EXTINGUISHERS UNLESS NEEDED To Raise Alarm 01980 662222 (on site) 999 elsewhere

  9. Raise the alarm by shouting "Fire, Fire, Fire", • Operate the nearest internal fire alarm. (located at front and rear doors). • Contact emergency services and advise the operator of location and type of fire known casualties and state your name. • ONLY ADULTS MAY ATTEMPT TO FIGHT THE FIRE IF SAFE TO DO SO. Cadet Welfare – • Respect other people • Do as your requested If you are upset or concerned about any issues contact; • A member of staff, preferable the Squadron Chaplain or OC.. • We have access to a very large range of confidential services who can provide professional support and advice. Squadron Chaplain– Supportive Role; • Support to the you, the staff and the voluntary workers. • “To promote appropriate pastoral care for all personnel within the ATC (irrespective of religious belief or status” ) • Regular “Padre’s Hour” with the cadets • Conduct the formal Enrolment Service. • Also manage Church Parades with local Churches. Welfare Bullying is NOT TOLERATED within the ATC.

The Air Training Corps has 3 main aims. • To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and Royal Air Force • To provide training which will be useful in the Services and Civilian Life • To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship Aims The Air Cadet organisation provides strong and varied opportunities for all individuals who join, this does include those with individual needs. The activities are rewarding and offer positive experiences whether you want to join the services or explore other career paths. The Air Cadets is what you want it to be.

Flying Get to fly in the powered aircraft and gliders. • Adventure Training Every year you will get the opportunity to take part in activities including hill walking, rock climbing and much more. • Shooting You will get to go shooting on several different weapons including air rifles and semi automatic rifles. • Sports There are 7 major sports available undertaken to national standards, just think one day you could be a true Olympian. • Fieldcraft Experience living from ration packs under the shelter of bivouacs in field conditions. • And Much Much More…...   16. Annual Subscriptions - Paid in advance to cover local costs for equipment and facilities. The subscriptions are currently as follows; • New Cadets - Initial 1 month £3 • Thereafter - 1 months attendance £6 monthly 3 ways to pay; • Cash • Cheques payable to: 1011 Sqn ATC • Standing Order: Ask for a form What will it Cost? NOTE Other activities and equipment will cost extra, you will be advised before any such costs may be due. Lost and malicious damage items will also incur costs. We can reclaim tax at the rate of 25p for every £1 paid in contributions. Get a form from the office

  17. We do understand that you may be a bit nervous, but don't worry . You will be assigned a buddy to ensure that you settle into the squadron. • They will help you out with any questions you may have and guide you on how to behave and wear your uniform. • As a new Cadet, until you get your uniform you need to dress smartly, school uniform without tie is perfectly acceptable. If you are going to undertake an activity which you may get dirty we will provide a set of coveralls. • After 3 months you will become enrolled, this is an important ceremony that involves yourself, the squadron padre and your parents. You will receive your record of service book and state your commitment to the Air Training Corps. I am new get me out of here Don’t be frightened to ask questions, you are here to learn and most importantly have fun.

On your enrolment you will be asked to undertake the following promise "I, Cadet **Your Name** hereby solemnly promise on my honour to serve my Unit loyally and to be faithful to my obligations as a member of the Air Training Corps. I further promise to be a good citizen and to do my duty to God and the Queen, my Country and my Flag." Trousers or skirt • Shirts(light blue(Wedgewood) & dark blue(Working)), Tie • Jumper, Waterproof jacket • Beret, Armband for badges • Coveralls (loaned as required) • Combat 95 Clothing (Trousers/Shirt/Jacket) • You will also need the following, which you will have to purchase: • Black shoes, Black boots • Black socks (males) or tights (females) Uniform Some items are available for purchase cadets may not be allowed to wear them. Before buying uniform please speak to an adult SNCO who may be able you find the best place to purchase and to ensure you purchase correct items.

It is important that you look after your uniform, • Keeping it clean and well pressed. • Shoes should be clean and highly polished. • Boy’s hair must be short • Girls must wear their hair clear of the bottom of the collar, using hair colour unobtrusive accessories if necessary. • Girls may wear a plain gold stud in pierced ears, apart from formal parades. •  Other jewellery is not normally permitted. Makes us different to other youth organisations • Don't be put off by the harsh sounding - moved along way from the ‘drill sergeant’ approach as seen in the movies. • Teaches confidence, good behaviour and how to undertake drill as a team. • The thrill and satisfaction of being able perform drill and to work together • The discipline is taught so that you can become a mature leader and become very motivated, skills which you can use anywhere you go. Timings - Mondays and Fridays,1900 to 2130 Expected to arrive prior to 1855 . • Programme – Contains • Activities • Uniform • Special Requirements • Displayed on noticeboard • Available on Sqn Website www.1011sqn.org/upcoming • Training Sessions - On a normal evening there will be 2 training sessions of 45 minutes. Cadet Training Facility - It contains all the ingredients you need to access the world of adventure and learning. • IT Equipment - We have 3 classrooms and a parade hall capable of training up to 40 cadets. Each room is equipped with IT equipment, projectors and internet access. • Practical facilities - We also have excellent facilities to undertake other projects such as model making, aviation art, photography and even have our own radio network. Facilities As with any equipment please only use these facilities once you have been trained to do so.   25. The proficiency training system uses a variety of fun lessons, computer based training and electronic exams to train cadets to a high standard. First Class Training Provides broad view of the ATC, RAF, initial Expedition Training, Map Reading, History of Flight, Airmanship, Radio Communications Proficiency Training Leading Cadet, 3 Exams & 25Hrs Project work Senior Cadet, 3 Exams & 25Hrs Project work Master Cadet, 3 Exams & 25Hrs Project work Instructor cadet, Method of Instruction Course (Once you mastered training syllabus you will train on how to teach, and awarded the yellow lanyard)

First Class - There is no assessment at 1st Class, however progress is followed by completion of a workbook. 1st Class is award on successful submission. • Leading to Master Cadet - Online assessment using Bader Ultilearn • Instructor Cadet – Either attendance and assessment of Wing managed Method of Instructor Course or successful completion of QAIC. Proficiency Assessment • BTEC Awards • With a little extra studying you may obtain a BTEC qualifications in subjects such as • Aviation Studies • Public Services • Music   Ultilearn Log In Log on details and training will be provided prior to use

  27. Promotion –There are several ranks (non commissioned officer (NCO) available to you. ALL ranks are appointed by the officer commanding or higher and as such the behaviour and actions of an NCO must be at the highest standard • Cadet Corporal (Must Complete JNCO training) Promotion Prospects • Cadet Sergeant (Must Complete SNCO training) • Cadet Flight Sergeant (Select by Wing) • Cadet Warrant Officer (Interviewed by wing) As a cadet you will be expected to follow any orders given by these NCOS and remember you must call them by their rank. Treat them how you want to be treated once you are promoted

  28. What happens when you get to 18? - To remain as a cadet after your18th birthday you may apply to become a STAFF cadet. Once you have been selected and completed a BASIC course (apply on Bader) you then become a junior member of staff and be presented with some Staff Cadet Flashes. Cadet Leadership Courses • CLC • QAIC • Junior Leaders • Amport House • Community Sports Leader Award Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme - You are now entitled to be a member of the DofE scheme, be one of 1000s who can be adventurous, skilful and provide a service to your community.   29. Projects - To develop your practical and organisational skills you will get to undertake various practical projects. There are many projects to get involved with, the list below is to name just a few. • Photography, Model making, Aviation Art, Video making ,Flight simulation., First Aid If its not on the list you can always suggest a new project . Radio Operator - We have our own radio system and network, learn to operate high class radio systems over a large network. Using this systems you can talk to new friends in a professional manner. First aid - How ever safe an organisation operates there is always a risk of minor injuries learn how to look after yourself and others with a fantastic practical first aid training scheme, you will get a St Johns Ambulance Young First Aider award and also the knowledge that one day you will be able to help others in their time of need. Awards • Throughout the year awarded points for taking part, winning competitions and as reward for good shows, • At annual presentation dinner the cadet awarded the most points is awarded a trophy.. • Flights(Teams) • The squadron is split into flights (teams) managed by cadets NCOs and staff. Throughout the year each flight is awarded points for various competitions and events • At annual presentation dinner the winning flight is awarded a trophy. Team(Flight) Competitions The flight NCOs will also be your training mentors and should be your first point of contact if you require any help whilst your attending squadron activities. They will provide you with the support and motivation for you to enjoy and succeed within the Air Cadets.

  31. Canteen - The squadron committee operate a non profit canteen between the training sessions where you can purchase soft drinks and confectionery, so please bring some loose change, normally about £1. • Functions – We regularly organise, discos, summerballs and BBQs as a good way of socialising and getting to know each other Recreation

  32. Officer Commanding (OC) - The most senior member of the squadron, the OC is responsible for ensuring that the squadron operates safely and effectively. The commanding officer should be addressed as ’Sir’ and don't forget to stand to attention, salute if your in uniform Deputy Officer Commanding (DEPOC) - Answers to the officer commanding, the DepOC is empowered to ensure that all cadets and staff receive a good standard and adequate training. The DepOC enforces the rules and regulations of the ATC and will assume command of the squadron in the absence of the Officer Commanding. The DepOC should be addressed as ’Sir’ and don't forget to stand to attention and salute if your in uniform The Officers

  33. Adult Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (ASNCO) - Answers to the OC & DEPOC. The ASNCOs enforce the discipline on the squadron ensuring everybody are well behaved, they also ensure everyone can undertake drill. You will have more contact with the ASNCOs than most other staff . The ASNCOs should be addressed by rank, stand to attention but do not salute. Civilian Instructors - CIs are voluntary members of staff, they do not where uniform. They will often attend to provide specific training needs and provide wide range assistance to the uniformed members of staff. CIs although unpaid and non-uniformed remain an important part of the ATC, they are to be addressed as Sir or Ma-am at all times. You do not need to stand to attention or salute. The Adult SNCOs & Civilian Instructors

  34. Service Instructors - Members from any part of the armed forces, they are to be addressed by their rank, salute and stand to attention dependant whether they are Officers or SNCOs. The Service Instructors

  35. Parents/Guardians can support the squadron in a variety of ways giving as little or much time as they wish; • Actively support the Squadron via its Civilian Committee. • Providing occasional help with transport (lift sharing) • Assisting occasional events • Assisting with fund raising • Encouraging their sons/daughters in activities • Parents more than welcome to attend Annual Inspection Roles of Parents/Guardians • Squadron Committee • Meet every 6 weeks • Provide essential financial support • Provide welfare support • Amount of commitment time is purely up to the individual 3822 Record of Service Book Parents/Guardians should read and sign these books to pledge support to their cadet on the squadron.

  36. Carry your F3822 Record of Service book with you at all times • Wear uniform unless told otherwise and be smart. • Always be good mannered and polite. • Use “Sir” or “Ma’am” when speaking to officers, warrant officers and civilian instructors. Other adult uniformed staff are called by their rank. • When speaking to cadet NCOs, call them by their rank. • Salute officers when you are in uniform and wearing your beret. • Salute when entering the CO’s office. • Read the notice boards. • Volunteer for as much as you can. • Make sure that you know where you have to be and when. • Carry out instructions quickly, quietly and efficiently. • Carry a notebook and pen and use them. • Ask staff for an authorised absence if you have to miss a parade evening. • Tell staff immediately if you have to drop out of an event. • Pay any money that you owe on time. • Return equipment when you have finished with it and your uniform when you leave. • Ask for help if there is anything that you do not understand.   37. DON’Ts • Leave the building without telling a member of staff. • Intimidate or bully other cadets. • Behave in a disruptive manner, at any time. • Keep your hands in your uniform pockets. • Salute when not wearing your beret. • Smoke or drink alcohol while on ATC duty or in uniform. • Be afraid to ask.

  38.
