These procedures does not cause any change in lifestyles or eating habit. The procedures do not also require the patient to get involved in any weight loss workout. One of these surgical weight loss procedures is sleeve gastrectomy. What is sleeve gastrectomy? Sleeve gastrectomy also known as gastric sleeve is a surgical procedure through which a large portion of stomach is removed reducing the stomach pouch to about 25 percent its original size. The edges of the cut stomach are joined with surgical staples. The procedure is referred to gastric sleeve because a sleeve or tube is formed after the joining of the edges. The sleeve is normally banana-like in shape. After the procedure, the patient will be consuming small quantity of food and still feel full. One of the good sides of this procedure is that it does not affect the digestive order of the body. The digestion of food follows the normal process and the consumed food is fully absorbed. Weight loss is achieved because little quantity of food is consumed and thus nutrient absorbed is also small. The recovery period in gastric sleeve is highly reduced because the surgery is done laparoscopically. Owing to the fact that little incision or cut is made, the scare left after surgery is very small. The patient also does not feel much pain after the surgery.
