  1. Gastric Bypass at a Glance Gastric bypass is a unique technique of achieving weight loss. The technique does not involve or subject you to strenuous exercise. However, it involves a surgical procedure through which the size of the stomach is reduced. This will make the food you consume to bypass some small intestine parts. This means that you will be consuming small amount of food and you will feel full. The amount of nutrients absorbed by your body will also reduce when some part of your small intestine is bypassed. This will make you to lose weight. Roux en y bypass surgery is one of the types of techniques used in gastric bypass surgery. In the normal digestive system, the food we consume enters the small intestine passing through the stomach. Absorption of most of the nutrients takes place in the small intestine. The remaining undigested food is pushed to the large intestine for excretion through the anus. In roux en y bypass surgery, the size of the stomach is reduced. The reduced stomach pouch will be connected to the jejunum which is the middle of the small intestine. The duodenum which is the upper part of the small intestine and the remaining part of the stomach are bypassed in this procedure. This helps to reduce the quantity of food consumed and the amount of nutrients absorbed causing weight loss.
