  1. GMO Screening Kit GM technology involves direct manipulation of DNA instead of using controlled pollination to alter the desired characteristics. Genetic modifcation is one the approaches to crop improvement, all of which aim at adding desirable genes and removing undesirable ones to produce better varieties. Why Detect GMOs? Assure compliance with legislation: Research, cultivation, import and export of GMOs is regulated under: The Environment Protection Act (1986) The Destructive Insects and Pests Act (1914) The Foreign Trade (Regulation and Development) Act (1992) Ensure that a product meets market requirements Solve GM related ownership and other legal issues Assure purity and segregation of seeds and production thereof Trace genetic modification in breeding experiments How Are GMOs Detected? Most often GM plants and their seeds do not bear visible traits to distinguish them from their non-GM counterparts. Molecular and Biochemical based methods are used to detect the modified gene (transgene) introduced into a GMO or its protein product. About GMO Screening Kit: GMO Screening Kit is designed for rapid identifcation of the GMO status of crops. Identifcation can be done using commonly present screening elements (35S promoter and nos terminator) in raw and processed food. The kit contains GMO-specifc primers for a real-time PCR assay, dye premix, and positive control of GMO. GMO Screening Kit can be used for Screening of GMO in feld crops and processed food. The assay is Real-Time PCR based for detection of GMO detection that eliminates gel electrophoresis step. This product has been developed under technology licence agreement with National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi (ICAR, Govt of India).
