  1. Art on Steel: Stainless Steel Artworks Over the centuries, artists have experimented with the basics of what qualifies as an artefact. Can it only be given birth on a sheet of paper or through a musical instrument? Absolutely not. True artists perceive the world beyond the realm of surfaces that can bear art. That’s how metals, which were once synonymous with industry, have become an art form. In the last decade, the use of stainless steel as a material for creating sculptural artwork has become commonplace. Stainless steel is noncorrosive, resistant to fire and heat and has considerable longevity, properties that make it a suitable canvas for showcasing art. Stainless Steel Art Today, sculptors from around the world prefer stainless steel when it comes to artistic architectural specimens. The surface can be welded and joined together to create homogeneity in an art structure. Moreover, once the metal melts and gradually cools down and hardens, it can seamlessly meld with the other materials chosen by the artist. A prime example of stainless-steel art is the Sprouts Art Installation by Vibhor Sogani. Known for its humongous size and larger-than-life impact on viewers, the ‘Sprouts’ is at display near the AIIMS flyover in Delhi. The polished steel structure has also featured in documentaries and feature films. It generated a lot of curiosity amongst domestic and international travellers during the Commonwealth Games hosted by the city, back in 2010.
