  1. Directional Boring: A Common Technique in Construction Industry

  2. Also known as horizontal directional drilling or deviated drilling, directional boring is a method of trenchless technology that is mainly used for making crossings over rivers, roads, and existing structures, with the purpose of installing pipes to transport fluids and materials. It is an efficient method for transporting fluids and materials from one point to another without destroying anything that is existing between the two points.

  3. It is a technique that has been accepted and has become common in the construction industry because it is a better way of moving utilities. Unlike the traditional drilling method that leaves a lot of destruction in its wake, directional boring causes little or no destruction.

  4. One of the major advantages of directional boring that has made it the first choice in the construction industry is that nothing can stall, limit, or stop it. Although, the open cut excavation is the most common way to connect utilities, it can only be used when the ground above can be disturbed and when there are no obstacles –river, rocks, buildings, roadways – on the way. Obstacles do not pose problems when directional boring is used because it can be used to go under rivers, side-walks, roads, and even houses.

  5. Benefits of direction boring in the construction industry: It reduces soil disturbance. It is safer than open cut excavation. It is much quicker and efficient than the open cut excavation. It can be used to go under surface obstacles or ongoing site operations, therefore, construction companies do not have to delay or stop their work because of obstacles. It reduces the fractures to rocks around the work site. It protects the landscape and the ecosystem

  6. It reduces the contamination of groundwater and it reduces the chances of harmful substances getting in the air we breathe and into any other place where they might cause pollution or harm to humans, plants, and animals. It can be used in many areas that would be inaccessible using open cut excavation. It reduces excavation cost. It helps to reduce Shoring cost. It is the ideal option for sites that are sensitive to surface disturbance like the airport runways and golf courses. When directional boring is used, construction companies will pay little or nothing to restore the landscape to the way it was.
