  1. graphical representation of data in biostatistics

  2. INTRODUCTION Graphical representation is a form of visually displaying data through various methods like graphs ,diagrams , charts and plots .It helps in sorting , visualizing and presenting data in a clear manner through different types of graphs . Statistics mainly use graphical representation to show data .

  3. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES Graphs make complex data easier to understand .Graphs make it easier to compare two or more sets of data. Graphs help identify patterns overtime .Graphs helps make decision by analyzing situations more clearly. It take more time to create a graph than regular report.Graphs with multiple lines can be confusing . Graphs can be misinterpreted , leading to miscommunication .

  4. TYPES OF DIAGRAMATIC REPRSENTATIONLine diagram or graph Bar diagram Pie chart Pictogram Histogram Frequency polygon Ogives

  5. LINE DIAGRAM OR GRAPHA line graph is a simple way to visually communicate how the measured values of a continuous variables change over time . Example : cricket score in each over .

  6. LINE DIAGRAM

  7. QUESTION : The following table gives information on the favouritecolours by the group of people. Colours no of people Yellow 16 Pink 20 Blue 30 Green 26 Orange 35 Draw the line graph for the information provided.

  8. BAR DIAGRAM A bar graph is a specific way of representing data using rectangular bars in which the length of each bar is proportional to the value it represents . Example : used to represent business data .Simple bar diagram – only one variable can be represented .Multiple bar diagram – many variables can be represented .Compound or subdivided bar diagram – a type of bar chart where a single bar is divided into multiple segments each representing a different component of the data

  9. SIMPLE BAR DIAGRAM QUESTION : The following table shows the percentage of monthly salary saved by each employee in a 100-person company. Create a vertical and a horizontal bar diagram to represent it.

  10. MULTIPLE BAR DIAGRAM A company manufactures three varieties of soap. Represent the following information showing the quarterly sales (three months) using a multiple-bar diagram.

  11. SUB DIVIDED BAR DIAGRAM Represent the following information using a sub-divided bar diagram, showing the quarterly sales of three varieties of soap manufactured by a company.

  12. Pie Chart It’s a circular graph whose area is sub-divided into sectors by radii in such way that the area s of sectors are proportional to the angles at the center. The angle of segment = Frequency of data/Total data frequency x 360

  13. Question: The percentages of various cops cultivated in a village of particular distinct are given in the following table Items Wheat pluses Jowar Groundnut Vegetables Total Percentage of cops 125/3 125/6 25/2 50/3 25/3 100 The central angle = (component value/100) × 360° SOLUTION :items Percentage of cops Central angle Wheat 125/3 [(125/3)/100] × 360° = 150° Pulses 125/6 [(125/6)/100] × 360° = 75° Jowar 25/2 [(25/2)/100] × 360° = 45° Groundnuts 50/3 [(50/3)/100] × 360° = 60° Vegetables 25/3 [(25/3)/100] × 360° = 30° Total 100 360°

  14. PictogramA pictograph is a visual representation of data that uses images or symbol to convey information.

  15. Question : We will represent the average hours spent by students on different activities. The following table gives this data: Activity Time Spent Online Classes 4 hours Gadgets 4 hours Self Study 1 hour Sleep 10 hours Others 5 hours

  16. Histogram It is a graph that shows the distribution of numeric data .It is the most common form of diagrammatic representation of grouped frequency distribution of both continuous and discontinuous type.

  17. Question: The following table gives the lifetime of 400 neon lamps. Draw the histogram for the below data. Lifetime (in hours) Number of lamps 300 – 400 14 400 – 500 56 500 – 600 60 600 – 700 86 700 – 800 74 800 – 900 62 900 – 1000 48

  18. Frequency polygon A line graph that visually represents the distribution of a dataset by plotting the frequency of each class interval against its midpoint, offering a way to compare data sets or display cumulative frequency distributions.

  19. OgiveAn ogive (also known as a cumulative frequency curve) is a graphical representation of a cumulative frequency distribution, useful for visualizing data and estimating statistics like the median and percentiles. Types: There are two main types of ogives: Less than ogive: Plots the cumulative frequency of values less than or equal to a given value. More than ogive: Plots the cumulative frequency of values greater than or equal to a given value.
