  1. Why is FIBC fabric weight important? FIBC Bulk Bags are the most demanded bags in the Domestic & International Markets. Every business involved in Manufacturing, Mining, Construction, and Agriculture heavily relies on FIBC Bulk Bags for storing, handling, and transporting products and materials. FIBC bags are durable, 100% safe, eco-friendly, robust in strength, and the most reliable bags. Many consumers have questions regarding what are FIBC Bulk Bags made of, fabric making process, why fabric weight is important, and how we weigh and confirm fabric weight; we are going to answer all these questions in this blog to give you a crystal clear clarity on FIBC Bulk Bags to make your purchasing decision straightforward.

  2. What are FIBC Bulk Bags made of? FIBC Bulk Bags are manufactured using a heavy gauge woven polypropylene (PP) fabric which is flexible. This flexible fabric is constructed by weaving thick, robust-strength polypropylene (PP) tapes. Afterward, these tightly woven polypropylene (PP) tapes are used to form heavy fabric, sewn together to form a bag. Once the fabric is firmly woven, a polypropylene (PP) film layer can be laminated to the bag’s fabric to form a “coating.”

  3. Bag Fabric Making Process At Umasree Texplast, we follow an SOP and process for the FIBC Bulk Bag Fabric Making process. The process is as follows: 1. Resin Extrusion We melt virgin polypropylene (PP) resin, UV inhibitors for plastic, and other additives for forming large-size plastic sheets. 2. Cutting & Winding The large-size plastic sheets are then cut into long thin tapes and looped onto bobbins. Long thin tapes are adjusted according to the bag fabric weight requirements.

  4. 3. Weaving We load the bobbins onto large circular looms, and the woven fabric is formed to make the bag. 4. Coating We leave the choice to the client whether they want coated or uncoated FIBC Bulk Bags. Based on the client’s requirements, we coat the FIBC Bags by laminating a polypropylene (PP) film layer to the woven fabric. The PP Film Layer reduces airflow, moisture intrusion, and dust sifting through the bag’s materials & products.

  5. Why is FIBC Bag Fabric weight important? FIBC Fabric weight plays a critical role in the safety & performance of the FIBC bag. Insufficient fabric weight can lead to defects in the bag, injuries to the personnel handling the bag, and unforeseen accidents. FIBC Fabric weight varies according to the application usage of the bag and the client’s requirements. Tape thickness can be adjusted up or down during manufacturing to increase or decrease the fabric’s weight (thickness).

  6. Heavier woven fabric tends to support higher Safe Working Loads (SWL). E.g. For a 2,000 lbs SWL FIBC Bag, 160gsm fabric is ideal. And for a 4,000 lbs SWL FIBC Bag, 240 gsm fabric is suitable. In coated FIBC Bags, the PP Laminated layer weighs around 25-30gsm. The lamination layer doesn’t provide additional strength to the bag; it just protects the materials inside the bag from external natural factors. FIBC Fabric weight gives extra robust strength to the FIBC Bag.

  7. How do I weigh FIBC Bulk Bag Fabric? It is straightforward to weigh FIBC Bulk Bag Fabric. You need a fabric sample cutter and a high-precision digital weighing scale. Firstly, you must cut a small circle from the FIBC Bag body in at least two places. If you have a Tubular FIBC Bag, you must cut sections from the bag’s body and below lift loops. Then, you must place the sample on the digital weighing scale, measured in grams. The circle diameter is pre-set so that you only need to multiply the displayed figure in grams on the weighing scale by 100 to get the FIBC fabric weight per sqm. Note: The non-load bearing components of the FIBC Bag, such as fill & discharge spouts and duffel top, must be made from lighter fabric.

  8. Conclusion After going through the entire blog, you will have clarity on FIBC Bulk Bag fabric weight and how it is weighed.
