  1. Pilates Pilates is a complete exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. Pilates uses a method of physical exercise to strengthen and build control of muscles, especially those used for posture.  Awareness of breathing and precise control of movements are integral components of Pilates.
