  2. Was Horatio Nelson really so significant? • Horatio Nelson is one of the most famous names in British history. He was such a great hero that his statue was placed on top of the tallest column in the world (at that time), right in the centre of Britain’s biggest city, London. • Nelson’s Column is so high that you would need to stand more than 30 teachers on top of each other to reach the top. The statue of Nelson on the very top is at least another three teachers tall! • This is the kind of memorial people usually only get if they are really SIGNIFICANT. This lesson you will decide whether you think Nelson was really so significant. Can you think of someone who is famous but not significant? What is the difference between being famous and being significant? What do you think he did for a memorial that big to be build of him?
