Lesson 20. 3 rd - io conjugation verbs 4th conjugation verbs. Sub-group: 3 rd –io Conjugation. Their first ending is always – io . 3 rd conjugation – io verbs always have –ere for their infinitive ending. Their last two parts often have very different spellings than the first two.

  2. Sub-group: 3rd –io Conjugation • Their first ending is always –io. • 3rd conjugation –io verbs always have –ere for their infinitive ending. • Their last two parts often have very different spellings than the first two. • capio, capere, cepi, captus • facio, facere, feci, factus 3-io

  3. Present Tense3rdConjugation -ioVerbs • 3rd conjugation –io verbs use the same “trick” as 3rd conjugation to make their present tense stem • capio, capere, cepi, captus • Instead of dropping just the –RE to find the stem, go ahead and drop the –ERE instead! capere– -ere = cap-

  4. 3rd Conjugation –io Present Tense Endings Singular Plural 1st person 2nd person 3rd person -io -imus we… I… i -is -itis y’all… you… -iunt -it they… he/she/it…

  5. capio, capere: put, place We’ve replaced the –e- before the –re with other vowels, -i and –u. Each form has an -i. cap cap io imus is cap itis cap iunt cap cap it

  6. capio, capere: take Singular imperative: Drop the –re. Plural imperative: Drop the –re, change -e- to –i-, then add -te. cape! take! capite! take!
