  1. A focus on land and infrastructuremanagement applications

  2. Basic elements of Qatar’s GIS • Common standards • Data Sharing • The Centre for GIS • Nationwide Digital Mapping Program • Inter-Agency Coordination

  3. CGIS responsibilities • Developing nation-wide standards, specifications and procedures for collecting, storing, retrieving and sharing GIS data. • Seeking support from government decision makers • Encouraging inter-agency coordination • Providing accurate spatial reference bases • Developing special products • Hosting specialized training programs

  4. High resolution colored Ortho imagery High precision Digital Elevation Model. Highly accurate, Topographic Vector Maps National Mapping Program As the official mapping agency for the State of Qatar, The CGIS maintains and provides on-line access to Qatar's Digital Topographic Database. This comprehensive database comprises of:

  5. Data Sharing • All agencies’ public data is available over the GISNet • Decision makers can analyze and use data made available by those agencies.

  6. Doha - 1993

  7. Doha - 2008

  8. Examples from agencies with GIS implementation

  9. Real Estate Registration System … Ministry of Justice • A complete electronic system that manages real estate registration process. • Data Sources: • Ministry of Interior providing owner name and Qatar ID "QID“. • General Survey Section providing accurate survey for parcels and PIN number. • The Centre for GIS providing Topographic Database and Ortho images.

  10. Real Estate Registration System … Ministry of Justice • Benefits of the system include: • Elimination of uncertainty concerning the extent and content of rights in Land • Less litigation and less work for courts • Reduced time of parcel registration • Existence of Digital, Accurate and up-to-date Cadastral Database • Providing a link between spatial and tabular ownership related data.

  11. Land Information System … Planning Department • Data Sources: • Policy plans and land use data coming from The planning department. • Roads flow line coming from public works Authority. • Topographic data and satellite imagery coming from The Centre for GIS.

  12. Land Information System … Planning Department • Benefits of the system include: • Effective operations to Create / Update Cadastral, Policy Plan, Administrative Boundaries and Design data. • Managing the workflow throughout the life cycle of a job. • Provided flexibility in Changing data layers, layouts, editable fields, Search methods.
