  1. If you are looking for a way to keep the home secure, cost, warm and want to do it in a way that enhances the appearance of the home too, you should take a look at the many options of window shutters available. Shutters are a great way to keep the heat in during the winter months, offer you more privacy and keep the home safe. Plus they also look great on any home. Types of plantation shutters - Plantation shutters can go on the outside or inside of windows and doors including swimming pools, bathrooms and shower rooms when they are waterproofed. They are wooden or faux wood shutters with louvred panels and there are three types, full height, cafe style and tier on tier.

  2. Cafe style – From their original use in France to create a more intimate experience when dining out but still allow in natural light. They cover the bottom half of a window and offer some privacy, allow in some light and are more cost-effective than getting the full-length types. Full height/length – As the name indicates these cover the whole window and are a great option for homes and offices too. You get more privacy but you pay a little more too. Tier on tier – Cover the whole window but in 2 sections and each of the louvred panels can open independently of the other so you can have the top half closed and the lower opened or vice versa depending on the light you want and the privacy you want. Plantation shutters do not have solid panels like solid shutters. If you are looking for noise blocking, complete light blocking and privacy, then solid panels would work better.

  3. Save money on your energy bills - When it gets cold outside and you start turning up the heating inside when you have any kind of window shutters that can help keep the heat in and save you money on your energy bill. Solid shutters are especially effective at this but even external shutters offer some insulation and reduce heat loss through the glass windows. The bonus with plantation ones is that even as they are keeping the heat in you can still adjust to allow some light in too. Even the cafe half style will help reduce drafts and loss of heat from the lower half of the windows. Give you an extra barrier for privacy Another nice benefit of having shutters is the privacy and security they offer. You are hiding what is in your home so opportunistic thieves do not decide to have a try at something. People cannot see you enjoying your hot chocolate in your pyjamas. Plantation shutters add an extra layer of security around your home at night while giving you wonderful light and letting in the fresh air in the day. At any time of day or night, you can adjust the slats to a different position depending on what level of openness or privacy you prefer at that point.
