  2. What is Alcohol? • Alcohol is created when grains, fruits, or vegetables are fermented. (a process that uses yeast or bacteria to change the sugars in the food into alcohol). • Alcohol numbs the senses and even blocks some information from getting to the brain. • Alcohol is very addictive. • Some people become addicts from their very first drink.

  3. Why do people drink alcohol? • Some people do because of peer pressure. • Some drink so they can forget about all their problems. • Some think it will make them look older and more mature. • Others just out of curiosity. Whatever the reason alcohol is not cool!

  4. Ethanol • In Alcohol there is a chemical called ethanol. • Alcohol is addictive because it has ethanol in it. • Ethanol is used in fuels, disinfectants and other harmful substances.

  5. Risks • Some risks of drinking alcohol include: difficulty walking, slurred speech, blurred vision, impaired memory, blackouts, liver disease, slowed reaction time, unintentional injuries, mental confusion, vomiting, fatigue, and even death. (just to name a few) • Teenagers and kids have a higher risk of becoming addicts. • You may also get alcohol poisoning

  6. Alcohol Poisoning • Alcohol poisoning is when the body has been poisoned by large amounts of alcohol • If you get this you will get extremely sick and you could die • If you don’t your liver would probably explode

  7. Health triangle If you drink alcohol it effects all sides of your health triangle.

  8. When you're drunk you can’t think straight You wont remember many things you did during that time. If you are in a hangover after you will have a hard time concentrating. Mental/Emotional

  9. Physical • While you are drunk you can’t control yourself. You could injure yourself or others. • If you start driving you could get in a crash or get pulled over

  10. Social • If you drink your breath smells and people will not want to be around you. • Some colleges might not accept you just because you drink. • You could also get denied a job

  11. Facts • If you drink your likely to pass that trait onto your child. • If you drink alcohol often you may get obese. • Drinking can destroy your heart, brain, liver and many other vital organs in your body. • You would use all your money on alcohol and you wouldn't have enough for other things

Facts • Alcohol ranks 4th in consumption of any kind of beverage behind soft drinks, milk, and coffee. • Heavy drinkers are 10 times more likely to get cancer. • The average person in 1830 consumed 2 ½ times more alcohol than present day people. • By the 8th grade 55% of the students have at least tried an alcoholic beverage.

Instead of alcohol you could… • Watch a movie • Play video games • Read a book • Play outside • Do homework • Watch T.V. • Go to the mall • Go to the park • Play computer • Feed your grandma • Hang out with friends • Listen to radio So why would you want to sit in your basement drinking alcohol?

  14. In conclusion • If you drink alcohol it will ruin the rest of you and your families life. • With alcohol no one wins. • Drinking is a dangerous road.
