In Six Days God created the heavens and earth and all that is in them in six days… Genesis chapter 1: Starting with verse 5, we see 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.... 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day….13 And the evening and morning were the third day…. 14 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day…. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day…. 31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day…. 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made.

3. In Six Days “But the word ‘day’ can mean something other than an ordinary day.” That’s true. A given word can have a number of different meanings.

4. In Six Days Meaning is dependent upon the grammar of the language and the context in which the words appear. However, the default meaning of the word ‘day’ is an ordinary 24 hour day.

5. In Six Days Since the word ‘day’ can mean something other than an ordinary day, the question is, “When does ‘day’ mean an ordinary day, and when does ‘day’ mean something other than an ordinary day?”

In Six Days Hebrew usage of the word ‘day’: • When ‘day’ is used with a number, it always means an ordinary day. • When evening and morning are used together, they always mean an ordinary day. • When ‘day’ is used with evening or morning, it always means an ordinary day. • When ‘day’ is used with night, it always means an ordinary day.

8. In Six Days Interestingly enough, the same four rules apply to the English language as well! Let’s consider a phrase used by Ken Ham…

9. In Six Days “Back in my father’s day, it took ten days to drive across the Australian outback during the day.” Does the first usage of the word ‘day’ mean an ordinary day? No, it means time. “In my father’s time…”

14. In Six Days It’s as if God is saying, “It’s an ordinary day.” “If you didn’t get it, it’s an ordinary day.” “If you’re really thick, God goes out of his way in the Hebrew language to say these were ordinary days! it is an ordinary day!”

15. In Six Days “Well, why doesn’t it say evening and morning on the seventh day?” God finished! The sequence was completed. Besides, it has a number, and that alone indicates it was an ordinary day.

16. In Six Days “Well, what about Genesis chapter two where it says, ‘…in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens…’ That doesn’t mean an ordinary day!” Is there a number? The word night? Evening or morning?

17. In Six Days In the Old Testament, outside of Genesis, • Day is used with a number 410 times. In all 410 uses, it means an ordinary day. • Evening & Morning are used together without the word ‘day’ 38 times. It always means an ordinary day. • Evening or Morning are used together with the word day 23 times each and always means an ordinary day. • Night is used with day 52 times and it always means an ordinary day.

18. In Six Days Since the default meaning of ‘day’ is an ordinary day, the burden of proof is on the one who claims it means something other than an ordinary day.

19. In Six Days Show me from the scriptures, the language, and the context, a reason why the word ‘day’ in chapter 1 of Genesis should not mean an ordinary day.

In Six Days Show me from a straightforward reading of Genesis chapter 1 that an unbiased person, someone who had no extra-Biblical teaching about the age of the universe, someone who was simply seeking truth would come to the conclusion that it is talking about anything other than an ordinary day.

In Six Days God even wrote it in stone by his own hand as part of the Ten Commandments: • Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea and all that in them is, and rested on the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. • Exodus 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth…and He gave unto Moses…tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

23. In Six Days “But God knew people in the beginning wouldn’t have understood the details of a ‘billions of years creation scenario,’ so he used the word ‘day’ to make it easier to understand.” God would lie, mislead, or distort the truth to make something easier to understand?

24. In Six Days I believe the most perfect and intelligent beings that ever existed were Adam and Eve. On average, the farther back toward Adam and Eve you go, the less degenerated everything was; therefore the more intelligent people were.

26. In Six Days God invented language, and then gave us HIS revelation in language. Is God inept? Is God not a good communicator? 27. In Six Days Do you really think the most intelligent humans who ever lived would have had difficulty understanding the concept of indefinite or long periods of time? Such as… “In the first epoch, God created…,” “In the second epoch, God created…” as opposed to “first day…,” “second day…”?

30. In Six Days God communicated through language. Therefore, we must view His message and derive meaning through the rules and context of language. If what God said disagrees with what man says, who is most likely to be wrong?

31. In Six Days “But God didn’t intend to describe HOW he created, only THAT he created.” Genesis is not poetic. Genesis is not written as a “story.” Genesis is written in the Hebrew “historical narrative.” Genesis is not legend, myth, or fable. It is an account.

32. In Six Days “But there are many details missing from the Genesis account.” It’s true, God did not include many of the details of the creation event. A complete level of detail, we would be sure to misunderstand. However, there is a difference between taking what God says as truth and filling in the details with what we slowly discover, and taking contradictory statements of man and saying what God DID say is incorrect.

33. In Six Days Whenever we’re presented with something man says, it must at least fit with what God has said, or man is wrong.

34. In Six Days “But in Second Peter chapter 3 verse 8, it says, ‘With the Lord a day is like a thousand years!’” Read the rest of the verse… “And a thousand years is like a day!” Well that cancels that one right out!

35. In Six Days Furthermore, a phrase in the New Testament does not determine the meaning of a Hebrew word. The meaning of a Hebrew word is determined by the Hebrew language, the Hebrew grammar, and the context in which it appears.

36. In Six Days The word ‘day’ [YOM] is used 2301 times in the Old Testament. Why question only Genesis 1? What if we said… Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for 3000 years.

In Six Days 1984 Professor James Barr, Regius Professor of Hebrew, University of Oxford: “… so far as l know, there is no professor of Hebrew or Old Testament at any world-class university who does not believe that the writer(s) of Gen. 1-11 intended to convey to their readers the [idea] that creation took place in a series of six days which were the same as the days of 24 hours we now experience …. 39. In Six Days No, God didn’t create the universe in millions of years or even six thousand years. Our God created the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them IN SIX DAYS — Just as HE said. — The question is…

40. In Six Days Why did it take him so long? Could God have created everything in an instant? YES Why did he drag it out?

41. In Six Days Where do we get our YEAR? Earth around the Sun Where do we get our MONTH? Moon around the Earth Where do we get our DAY? Rotation of the Earth

42. In Six Days Where do we get our WEEK? Genesis chapter 1 There is NO OTHER BASIS anywhere for a seven-day week.

43. In Six Days God created the universe in six days for us, so we would have a day of rest. • Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” Mark 2:27 Praise to our God who loves us so much.

44. In Six Days With all that said… There is only ONE reason for a person to conclude that the word 'day' in Genesis chapter 1 means something other than an ordinary day: To add Millions of Years to the Bible

45. In Six Days If you try to add millions of years to the Bible, you’ve got millions of years of death and suffering before sin. — And God called it good! Paul tells us in Romans 6:23 Death is the penalty for sin. He also reminds us in Romans 5:12-14 that sin came into the world by man, and death came into the world by sin.

46. In Six Days However, if death was around for millions of years before man, the idea of death being “the wages of sin” is a myth. Death was already here! If you’re going to cast doubt on the “six days” in Genesis chapter 1 in order to fit millions of years into the Bible, you also cast doubt on Romans 6:23, and 5:12-14. Where does it stop?

47. In Six Days Brothers and sisters, this is compromise with the world. This is judging the Word of God against the words of man. This is saying our God is incapable of communicating his message. This is saying man is wiser and more knowledgeable than God. This is SIN!

48. In Six Days God said SIX DAYS, approximately six thousand years ago. He wrote it in stone with his own finger. Man says millions of years of death and suffering, and thoughtless, purposeless, random evolutionary processes. Whom will you believe?
